Open Rank Faculty Position in Philosophy of Physics The Department of Philosophy at Stanford University seeks applicants for a junior or senior appointment at the rank of tenure-track Assistant Professor, tenured Associate Professor, or Full Professor. The preferred area of specialization is Philosophy of Physics. We understand physics broadly to include applications of ideas and methods from the physical sciences to the study of complexity, information, social systems, and other domains. Applicants must have demonstrated a commitment to effective teaching and mentoring and the ability to maintain a world-class research program. The successful candidate must have a Ph.D. in a related field and will be expected to teach and advise students at both the graduate and undergraduate levels. The term of appointment is expected to begin on September 1, 2026. Responsibilities and Qualifications

Responsibilities include teaching and advising at the graduate and undergraduate levels, maintaining an active research program, and contributing to the scholarly mission of the Department of Philosophy. The position is open at the ranks of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor, with preference for specialization in Philosophy of Physics. Applicants must have a Ph.D. in a related field and a demonstrated commitment to effective teaching and mentoring. Qualifications include demonstrated potential for or a record of world-class research and an ability to teach and advise students at multiple levels. Application Materials

The salary range for this position in academic year 2025-2026 is: Assistant Professor: $111,240 - $130,810 Associate Professor: $124,630 - $154,500 Professor: $144,200 - $247,200 Stanford University has provided a pay range representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for the position. The pay offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors including (but not limited to) the qualifications of the selected candidate, budget availability, and internal equity.
