Postdoctoral Fellow

who is responsible for initiating and carrying out research projects in collaboration with a research team. Pursuits research along a focused line of inquiry and has a manuscript in development. This position will be in support of Dr. Marzena Pazgier's lab in Dept of Medicine located at The Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USU, https://www.usuhs.edu/) in Bethesda, Maryland in the lab that focuses on understanding mechanisms of molecular recognition in human disease with the goal to translate that knowledge into medical applications. We apply structural biology, structure-function analysis and other biochemical and biophysical tools to elucidate the molecular basis of the mechanisms involved in adaptive responses to HIV-1 and SARS-CoV-2 with the ultimate goal of generating basic knowledge and developing new vaccines, small compounds or antibody/protein therapeutics.

Strong research interests in protein engineering and structural biology, including molecular cloning, protein/antibody/envelope glycoprotein expression and engineering, X-ray crystallography and Cryo-EM are required for this position.

Qualified candidates should have a doctorate in biochemistry, molecular biology, structural biology or a closely-related field. Candidates at early career stage are strongly encouraged.

Responsibilities

Assists in designing, developing, executing, and implementing scientific research and/or development. Investigates the feasibility of applying a wide variety of scientific principles and theories to potential inventions and products. Performs specialized laboratory research utilizing experimental protocols which involves specialized procedures. Collects and handles samples and keeps detailed records of experiments. Assists with the preparation of data for presentations at scientific meetings and for publication in journals. May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role.

Education and Experience

Doctoral degree in biochemistry, molecular biology, structural biology or a closely related field Minimum of 0-5 years' experience required.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of appropriate scientific area; ability to analyze and interpret data Protein engineering and structural biology, including molecular cloning, protein/antibody/envelope glycoprotein expression and engineering X-ray crystallography and Cryo-EM Ability to obtain and maintain a T1 Public trust clearance.

Physical Capabilities

Ability to stand or sit at a computer for prolonged periods.

Work Environment

This position will take place primarily in a laboratory setting.

Compensation

The annual salary range for this position is $50,100-$68,000. Actual salary will be determined based on experience, education, etc.
