SOME (So Others Might Eat) provides material aid and comfort to our vulnerable neighbors in the District of Columbia, helping them to break the cycle of poverty and homelessness through programs and services that save lives, improve lives, and help to transform the lives of individuals and families, their communities, and the systems and structures that affect them. We meet immediate needs with food, clothing, and healthcare, and offer the tools one needs to live with hope, dignity, and greater independence. Compensation: We offer our employees a competitive compensation and benefits package that reflects our organizational culture, mission, and core values. The hourly range for this position is $19.46 to $20.59 and may be commensurate with experience. Schedule: Sunday - Thursday, 2:00 pm - 10:30 pm (40 hours per week) Required: High School Diploma or GED; 3-5 yrs. public safety experience; experience providing services to the homeless and/or underserved populations Required License/Certification: CPR/First-Aid; Must possess and maintain a vehicle and valid Driver's License (Mileage will be reimbursed) Responsibilities
Ensure SOME Inc. facilities are safe and clients, guests, and residents are in a secure, safe environment. Provide security details inside and outside of locations Provide conflict mitigation and de-escalation conflicts between clients, guests, residents, and or staff with the use of CPI/ Handle with Care or related de-escalation training Develop and file incident reports/ SIR for medical and police issues, and special circumstances Contact police when conflict escalates or violent behavior is exhibited by clients, guests, or residents Assist when needed to Emergency Services Notify facilities immediately when a situation arises requiring immediate attention Make rounds at assigned facilities, document and report incidents, and provide a safe and secure presence Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities Required
Must be able to complete incident reports using MS Office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook Ability to create and maintain a working relationship with the Metropolitan Police Department Ability to handle crisis situations and exhibit professionalism under pressure Must be able to stand for long periods of time and work outside in inclement weather Resilience to work with difficult situations Must be able to respond quickly and appropriately in potentially hostile situations Conflict resolution skills; able to de-escalate clients Reports to: Public Safety Officer, Senior Team Lead Position Designation: This position is designated as Safety Sensitive. You may be subject to drug testing before or during your employment with SOME. In this position, you may be disqualified from employment based on the presence of marijuana in test results, even if you possess a medical card authorizing the use of medical marijuana. Physical Demands: Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds. May be required to sit or stand for long periods. Must be able to move around all levels/floors of the building.
