Position Overview The Command and Control, Battle Management, and Communications (C2BMC) program is a vital part of the Missile Defense System. It provides an essential operational platform that allows the U.S. president, the secretary of defense, and combatant commanders at strategic, regional, and tactical levels to plan missile defense operations, monitor battle progress, and actively manage networked sensors and weapon systems to achieve global and regional mission goals. C2BMC offers a layered missile defense capability and serves as a key component of ground and flight tests that verify and demonstrate the system’s capabilities. This position is for a Software Engineer supporting the C2BMC program. The candidate will be responsible for developing software in Java. Responsibilities Responsible for analyzing and providing technical support for systems software products, including complex problem resolution, design, development, testing, operational integration, and user assistance Designs, codes, maintains, debugs, and configures enterprise software applications and products Develops or modifies operating system applications based on specifications Assists with designing, coding, benchmarking, debugging, and documenting programs Collaborates with other system support teams to resolve issues, establish standards, and enhance the overall system efficiency Understands fundamental software practices, including coding standards and configuration management Basic Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM discipline (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) from an accredited university and 2 years of related experience, or Master’s degree in a STEM discipline; or 6 years of relevant work experience in lieu of a degree Ability and willingness to travel up to 10% to support business needs Applicants must have a current, active in-scope DoD-issued Secret security clearance at the time of application, which is required to start Experience in software engineering and development with Java/JEE Familiar with developing enterprise applications using Java Familiar with Java foundation classes and toolkits Knowledge of developing software for Unix/Linux systems Experience working as part of an Agile team and understanding of Agile methodology Understanding of standard system engineering design artifacts such as Use Cases and SysML diagrams Strong oral and written communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced team environment Preferred Qualifications Experience in some or all of these areas desired: Use of common software development and management tools such as Git, Nexus, JIRA, Confluence, Maven/Gradle, Eclipse Full-stack experience Command and control system application development Automated testing and pipeline development experience Test-driven development Experience developing software for Windows platforms Experience with software integration testing, including developing automated test scripts Knowledge of server-side/database development and computer system administration Strong verbal and written communication skills, ability to work independently, and adaptability in a dynamic environment Solid working knowledge of MS Office products EEO: Northrop Grumman is an Equal Opportunity Employer, making decisions without regard to race, color, religion, creed, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, marital status, national origin, age, veteran status, disability, or any other protected class.
