Technical Director, Risk Control - Life Sciences and Technology at Liberty Mutual Insurance. Role Summary
As a Technology and Life Sciences Technical Director for Risk Control, the successful candidate will: Complete risk assessment and service visits with associated reports and confirmation letters to clients. Coach aligned learners and provide technical support to risk control consultants who will be surveying Technology and Life Science accounts. Collaborate with risk control product directors and underwriting teams in the technology and life science verticals to develop tools, procedures, and best practices to improve market penetration through project development and completion. What You’ll Do in the Life Science and Technology Technical Director role
Survey and service High TIV and Complex Product Accounts: work on sophisticated Tech & Life Science accounts to mitigate risk, improve performance, and guide underwriting to profitable business. Prepare and manage reports with risk mitigation recommendations. Educate and Empower: provide training, coaching, feedback, and resources to risk control consultants to promote high-caliber development of the risk control team involved in Tech and Life Science. Collaborate: work with cross-functional teams in Risk Control, Underwriting, and Claims to ensure comprehensive risk assessment, service, and management strategies to write and retain profitable business. Analyze and Optimize: utilize data analytics and industry insights to identify trends, develop actionable strategies, and drive continuous improvement in risk control practices. Influence the Future: shape the direction of risk control initiatives, influence policy and procedural changes to enhance market position. Supporting our Brand: enhance Liberty Mutual’s leadership in Tech and Life Science through speaking engagements, developing a network of contacts, and publishing safety-related articles in professional publications. May lead projects within a broader program or manage ongoing activities or objectives. What We’re Looking For
A proven Risk Control industry leader with significant Life Science and Technology experience in the commercial insurance space, capable of balancing self-performed work, coaching, and project completion. Strong technical property, products, auto, and workers compensation knowledge relevant to Life Science and Technology with analytical skills to interpret data for informed decision-making. Exceptional coaching and communication abilities to guide teams and clients. A coach who can monitor and evaluate the technical skills and assess report quality of Risk Control Consultants and provide actionable feedback. Adaptable and proactive mindset with a passion for problem-solving and innovation to collaborate with product directors and underwriting teams. Ability to enhance Liberty Mutual’s leadership position in safety by developing key relationships. Participation in acquiring and retaining profitable business. Strong understanding of regulatory and code requirements (e.g. FDA, EMA, NFPA) and risk management methodologies. Familiarity with quality management systems (QMS), Good Laboratory Practices (GLP), and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP). Familiarity with electronics manufacturing, software as a product, and telecom industries. Ability to travel to client sites across the US; travel expected 25-50% per month. Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree with coursework in math, engineering or related areas (or equivalent) and at least 10 years of directly related consulting experience in loss prevention or progressive safety/health field. Candidates are typically working towards (or have obtained) an advanced degree and/or professional certification in CSP, ARM, CRM, CPCU, CIH, or CPE. Advanced knowledge in risk assessment, risk analysis, solutions management, and progress measurement. Fully effective interpersonal, writing and communication skills to develop and maintain relationships with customers, peers, and industry contacts. Excellent coaching and mentoring skills. Demonstrated ability to retrieve and enter information using proprietary software and to create/modify documents and complex spreadsheets in Microsoft Office. Position requires regular travel.
