Overview
College Access Specialist (through AmeriCorps) at Leading Youth Through Empowerment (LYTE). This role supports students in identifying successful pathways to college and coordinates services to students, families, staff, volunteers, and the community. Responsibilities
Support students with the college process During junior year, create personalized college lists for each student Assist with financial aid nights and review FAFSA/CSS Profile Assist students with college applications Help students create a list of colleges where they would like to apply Track progress of applications and assess effectiveness Direct and detailed contact with seniors on a weekly basis Explore relevant scholarship opportunities for students Lead students on a pathway to academic success, including collected grades and academic planning Collect and log grades for each student; create course pathways including APs and honors Collaborate with counselors, teachers, and stakeholders to advocate for students; encourage tutoring Log and analyze student progress (grades, attendance, applications) Engage in social and personal growth activities for students Co-create events for LYTE students and coordinate college/career-oriented programming Engage families with monthly communications about student progress and opportunities Form and maintain relationships with colleges, universities, and high school counselors; co-host college-related events Track data on each student (grades, standardized tests, applications, contact logs) Work with College Access Advocates to update programming and curriculum; check in with teammates regularly Qualifications
Bachelor Degree Basic knowledge of the college admission process and requirements Excellent oral and written communication skills Ability to build relationships with and motivate individuals Ability to work effectively with diverse groups and communities Proficient in Google Suite (Drive, Sheets, Docs) and willingness to learn other software Preferred
Involved in student advocacy or empowerment-based clubs/organizations Experience working with high school students Bilingual (Spanish and English) is highly preferred Seniority level
