We are seeking an experienced and results-driven

Controller

to lead and oversee our accounting operations. This position, based in Orange, CA and reporting to the CFO, is critical to ensuring financial integrity, optimizing cash flow, and supporting strategic growth through mergers and acquisitions. Key Responsibilities

Accounting Oversight: Lead and manage the accounting department, including AP/AR, general ledger, payroll, and month-end close. Ensure compliance with GAAP and regulatory requirements. Prepare and present timely, accurate financial reports to executive leadership. Implement and maintain internal controls and accounting policies. Serve as the primary liaison for outside audits. Collections & Billing: Oversee and improve billing processes for accuracy, timeliness, and alignment with client contracts. Lead collections efforts to reduce DSO and optimize cash flow. Partner with project managers to resolve billing disputes and strengthen invoicing practices. Monitor aging reports and develop strategies to minimize overdue accounts. Tax Accounting & Compliance: Manage all aspects of tax accounting, including accruals, provisions, and year-end entries. Coordinate with external tax advisors to ensure timely and accurate preparation of corporate and state filings. Provide internal financial data and documentation required for tax returns. Monitor evolving tax requirements and assess implications for the business. Support tax-related aspects of M&A due diligence and integration. Mergers & Acquisitions: Support due diligence for prospective acquisitions, including financial analysis and risk assessment. Lead post-acquisition integration of accounting systems, reporting, and processes. Partner with legal, HR, and executive teams to align M&A activity with strategic objectives. Manage and mentor accounting staff to support professional growth and departmental efficiency. Collaborate with operations, project management, and executive leadership to align financial strategy with business goals. Support budgeting, forecasting, and long-term financial planning efforts. Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA or MBA preferred). 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 3 years in a leadership role. AEC industry experience strongly preferred; candidates with project-based accounting expertise in other industries will also be considered. Strong knowledge of project accounting practices, including WIP, billing, and revenue recognition. Proven track record in collections management and billing process improvement. M&A experience, including financial due diligence and post-deal integration, a plus. Advanced proficiency in accounting software (Deltek, Viewpoint, Sage, or similar AEC/project platforms). In-depth knowledge of Excel functions. Excellent critical thinking, problem-solving, leadership, and communication skills. What We Offer
