Overview The Financial Aid Advisor reviews and evaluates students’ financial aid requests and makes award adjustments and recalculations. The Advisor may be responsible for overseeing the campus coordination, review and delivery of a Financial Aid specific program, based on the needs of the department.
Responsibilities
Analyzes/interprets federal, state and institutional policies and eligibility
Reviews/evaluates student data and supporting documentation to confirm accuracy of data and determines eligibility for a wide variety of federal, state and district grant, scholarships and other financial assistance programs
Resolves conflicts between application for aid and supporting documentation
Interprets federal and state income tax returns as they apply to student eligibility
Adjusts student and parent data at the DOE-Central Processor services
Informs and advises students/parents regarding availability of various funding sources, application process and procedures, rights and responsibilities related to student financial assistance
Delivers financial aid workshops, training sessions and other activities on or off campus to students/parents
Applies and monitors the student financial assistance academic progress policy to determine continued student eligibility
Coordinates the review and delivery of specific Financial Aid programs for the campus
Trains/provides work direction to student workers and other personnel as assigned
Assists the Campus Director in the development and improvement of various program policies
Assists in variety of special projects and programs
Serves on college committees; such as, Standards of Academic Progress Committee, Campus or College wide Scholarship Committee
Conducts Stafford loan exit interviews and workshops to reduce Miami Dade College Stafford loan default rate
Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree and three (3) years of related experience
All degrees must be from a regionally accredited institution
Knowledge and understanding of College organization, goals and objectives, and policies and procedures
Knowledge and experience in current federal and state financial aid policies and procedures
Ability to acquire and exhibit comprehensive knowledge of complex Federal, State and Institutional financial aid regulations, procedures and directives
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and database applications
Ability to work with designated student databases and college financial aid systems (Prosam)
Working knowledge of preparation of business correspondence, reports, forms, vouchers, work orders, and specialized documents connected with financial aid job tasks
Ability to use correct business spelling, grammar punctuation and formatting
Possess superior interpersonal and persuasive communication skills
Ability to demonstrate excellent time management and organizational skills
Ability to work a flexible which may include evening and weekend assignments
Ability to work effectively in a dynamic team and to multi task in a fast-paced, multi-ethnic, multi-cultural environment with students, faculty and staff
