About the Department The Housing Department administers the City’s housing and homelessness response through strategic investments and regulatory administrations across 23 lines of business. The department’s activities include managing over 1,000 shelter units, more than 50,000 rent-stabilized units, a loan portfolio exceeding $700M for housing development, and ongoing efforts to end unsheltered homelessness in San Jose. Position Duties
The Housing Department seeks one (1) full-time Administrative Officer in the Administrative Division. The salary range is $125,671.52 – $191,880.78 annually. This range includes an approximate 5% ongoing non-pensionable compensation. Final salary is determined by the candidate’s qualifications and experience. The annual operating budget exceeds $20M with annual fund distribution of over $200M from federal, state, and local sources. The Administrative Officer reports to the Deputy Director for Public Affairs and supports the Director and other Deputy Directors through administration of the budget, fiscal, procurement, human resources, information technology, and clerical functions for 15 FTEs. The AO coordinates with multiple City and external entities, including the City Manager’s Office, Human Resources, Employee Relations, City Attorney’s Office, City Auditor’s Office, Santa Clara County Government, and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. We are seeking a deadline-driven candidate who can plan, collaborate across levels, and execute multiple assignments effectively. The candidate should have strong analytical, problem-solving, interpersonal, and communication skills, with the ability to provide vision and strategic leadership in the management of administrative processes, emphasizing budget and accounting. Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience: Bachelor’s Degree in business administration, public administration or a related field and six (6) years of increasingly responsible experience in business management and/or administration, including at least two (2) years of supervisory experience. Other Qualifications
