Overview

URUS is seeking a Data Scientist passionate about transforming complex data into actionable insights! This hybrid role is based in the Madison, WI area, offering a blend of remote and on-site collaboration. You’ll work closely with cross-functional teams to develop models, create visualizations, and deploy analytical solutions that support key business goals. If you enjoy collaborative problem-solving and driving data-driven decisions, this is the role for you. As a Data Scientist you will work alongside other Data Scientists, Data Engineers, and Software Developers to develop, drive, and deliver value for a wide range of organizational objectives and stakeholders. Typical activities will include: Analyzing complex data sets to derive actionable insights and support decision-making processes Working with engineering and product teams to develop proof of concept features and product improvements Productionizing analysis and visualization scripts for consumption via APIs, dashboards, and reports

Data Analysis

Collect, clean, and process data from a variety of internal and external sources for use in downstream activities. Conduct directed and undirected exploratory analysis to identify trends, patterns, and opportunities. Work closely with a variety of stakeholders to create reports, visualizations, and dashboards that facilitate their objectives. Communicate findings and insights to stakeholders in a clear and concise manner, whether written, verbally, or visually.

Model Development

Design, implement, and evaluate machine learning or other statistical models to address specific business challenges. Develop, validate, and optimize machine learning, analytical, and other computational models for performance and accuracy. Collaborate with product teams and engineers to refine, package, and deploy computational models into production. Provide support and improvements for deployed models via new features and bug fixes throughout their lifecycle.

Communication and Education

Stay current with industry trends and advancements in Data Science, providing expertise to the organization when needed. Continually expand and improve your knowledge and mastery of Data Science tools and methodologies of all kinds. Develop and present reports, articles, and presentations on Data Science-related topics as required.

Minimum Qualifications

Must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field. Proficiency in programming languages such as Python or R. Experience with data analysis tools and libraries like SQL, Pandas, Polars, etc. Familiarity with machine learning libraries like Scikit-learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch, etc. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and technical communication skills, both written and verbal.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience developing, deploying, and testing models/scripts via Python microservice APIs (FastAPI, etc.). Experience with Databricks data warehouse/lakehouse tools, particularly using DBT models, and the Databricks AI/ML model development and deployment ecosystem. Experience building dashboards or interactive data presentations for stakeholders (PowerBI, Tableau, Streamlit, etc.). Developed or worked on custom models not available out-of-the-box in a package or library, ideally in a compiled language (C++, Rust, etc.).
