Director of Automation - Data Center Sector
At Interstates, we provide electrical, controls, automation, and OT services for industrial facilities. We are expanding into data center automation and seek a growth-focused leader to launch and scale this vertical. What You’ll Own Define and execute
a growth strategy for automation, EPMS, BMS integrations, and OT/IT systems tailored to hyperscale, colocation, and enterprise data centers. Drive client growth and engagement
— lead early-stage sales efforts and strengthen long-term client relationships. Build strategic partnerships that deliver value to data center clients. Represent Interstates in the market — develop relationships with technology providers and ecosystem partners. Lead cross-functional teams in business development, project delivery, and operations to win and execute complex, multi-site automation projects. Develop compelling offerings through productization, innovation, and go-to-market planning. Recruit, mentor, and inspire a high-performing team and foster collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement. Own the commercial outcomes — opportunity sizing, contracting, risk management, and profitability. Who You Are Strategic business leader with a strong background in data center projects and knowledge of automation systems and integration. (5+ years of leadership preferred; quality matters more than years.) Experience with EPMS, BMS, SCADA, and OT/IT networks — able to lead technical teams effectively. Skilled in building and closing sales, engaging prospects, and identifying growth opportunities. Excellent communicator with the ability to engage senior stakeholders confidently. Natural relationship-builder — trusted by clients, respected by partners, and inspiring to internal teams. Commercially savvy with experience managing P&L, negotiating contracts, and driving high-value projects. Travel:
Up to 50% travel expected to connect with clients, partners, industry events, and project teams on-site. Location:
Based in Sioux Center, IA; Sioux Falls, SD; or Omaha, NE offices. Compensation:
Base pay range $150K–$170K plus benefits. Salary ranges are determined by experience, education, and responsibility.
