Advantage Technical is partnering with a global leader in electric vehicles to hire a Design and Release Engineer - Steering, in Southfield, MI.
Pay Rate: $53.00 - $58.00 per hour
Schedule: Monday - Friday, daytime hours
As a Design and Release Engineer - Steering, you will play a critical role in developing world-class electric vehicles by supporting key steering system components, including Steering Gear, I shaft, and Steering Column. You'll collaborate closely with system engineers and cross-functional teams to take designs from initial concept through to production.
Responsibilities:
Lead design efforts for steering system components from concept to production
Document component requirements based on vehicle function and performance goals
Drive technical development with suppliers, balancing time, cost, and quality constraints
Support DFMEA and DVP processes and contribute to failure mode analyses
Perform structural analysis and detailed assessments of bolted connections for safety compliance
Troubleshoot virtual build issues and support manufacturing with error-proofing solutions
Use CAD tools and stack-ups to verify spatial constraints and packaging feasibility
Apply GD&T principles to ensure part fit, form, and function
Manage Engineering Change Requests and support continuous improvement initiatives
Identify cost-saving opportunities and contribute to product improvement roadmaps
Qualifications: 5+ years automotive design and release experience, including safety-critical components Proficient in CATIA V5/V6 and 3DX CAD software Strong knowledge of chassis and steering systems, mechatronics, and hydraulic systems Experience with project and supplier management Familiarity with requirements management and verification planning Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience
