We are a publicly traded asset management company with a strong track record of investing across credit and alternative strategies. As part of our continued growth, we are seeking a highly technical and hands-on Controller to oversee the financial reporting, accounting, and operational functions for our Business Development Company (BDC) platform. This is a key leadership role working closely with senior management, including the CFO and CAO.
Key Responsibilities:
Oversee all accounting, financial reporting, and regulatory filings for the firm’s BDC(s), ensuring compliance with SEC and GAAP requirements. Lead the preparation and review of quarterly and annual financial statements, including Form 10-Q, 10-K, and other SEC filings. Manage monthly and quarterly close processes, including consolidation, valuation of investments, and fair value reporting. Partner with portfolio management and operations teams to ensure accurate investment accounting and reporting. Maintain and strengthen internal controls, accounting policies, and procedures in line with SOX requirements. Oversee external audit and tax processes, serving as the primary liaison with auditors and third-party service providers. Provide technical accounting guidance on complex transactions, including valuation, investment structures, and consolidation matters. Mentor and develop accounting staff, fostering a high-performing, collaborative team environment. Support strategic initiatives, process improvements, and system enhancements to scale with the firm’s growth. Qualifications:
CPA required. Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; advanced degree preferred. Big 4 or top 7 public accounting experience required (audit focus strongly preferred). Minimum 8–12 years of progressive accounting/finance experience, including direct experience with BDCs. Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, SEC reporting, and fair value accounting for investment companies. Proven ability to manage complex reporting requirements in a public company environment. Excellent communication, leadership, and project management skills. High attention to detail with the ability to operate in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. Compensation and Benefits:
