R2489**About the Role**The **Course of Construction (COC) Underwriting Manager** is a leadership role within PURE’s underwriting organization, responsible for driving profitable growth and leading a team of underwriters focused on the COC line of business. This individual will partner with underwriting leadership to set the strategic direction for the COC portfolio, manage a team of COC underwriters while cultivating strong broker relationships, and oversee underwriting execution to ensure profitable line of business performance and disciplined growth.This role blends **strategic leadership, people management, and technical underwriting expertise.** The COC Underwriting Manager will mentor and develop underwriters, foster strong internal and external partnerships, and champion underwriting best practices that position PURE as a trusted market leader in construction risk.**What You’ll Do*** **Line of Business Strategy & Management*** Develop and execute the business plan for the COC portfolio.* Establish underwriting guidelines, risk appetite, and performance standards to drive consistency and discipline.* Monitor portfolio performance, analyze trends, and provide regular reporting and insights to senior leadership.* Collaborate with Regional Underwriting Managers and Business Development Executives to align COC strategy with regional plans and market dynamics.* **Broker Partnerships*** Build, maintain, and deepen trusted relationships with broker partners, positioning PURE as the preferred market for COC risks.* Oversee broker engagement strategies, set performance goals, and track progress against objectives.* Represent PURE externally as a subject matter expert in construction risk and underwriting.* **Team Leadership & Development*** Lead, coach, and develop a team of COC underwriters, providing guidance on underwriting complex risks.* Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and empathy in underwriting decisions.* Promote training, mentoring, and knowledge-sharing opportunities to elevate technical underwriting expertise.* Partner with leadership and Learning & Development to identify and address technical training needs.* **Underwriting Oversight & Execution*** Oversee underwriting within the COC portfolio, ensuring sound risk selection, pricing, and terms.* Handle complex account reviews and referrals beyond underwriter authority levels.* Ensure adherence to PURE’s governance framework, documentation standards, and underwriting best practices.* Conduct and oversee quality reviews and audits to reinforce underwriting rigor and continuous improvement.* **Agency & Territory Partnership*** Support agents and brokers with tailored solutions for their clients while delivering exceptional, timely, and accurate service.* Share knowledge and best practices with external partners to reinforce PURE’s reputation for underwriting expertise.**What We’re Looking For*** Significant underwriting experience, ideally in course of construction or property risks.* Proven leadership experience managing and mentoring underwriters.* Strong negotiation skills and success in managing broker and carrier partnerships.* Ability to set strategy and drive execution at both portfolio and account levels.* Collaborative leadership style with excellent communication skills.* Analytical thinker with the ability to translate data and market insights into actionable strategies.The base salary for this role can range from $95,000 to $115,000 based on a full-time work schedule.
