Automotive Controller – Family-Owned Dealership
— A well-established, family-owned dealership in the Westchester County market is seeking an experienced Automotive Controller to step into a long-term leadership role. The current Controller is retiring after a successful career with the organization, and the incoming candidate will take over a clean set of books and a well-structured office environment. It is imperative that the person hired has a strong track record in automotive accounting and understands the "why" behind the numbers.
Moreover, this position requires a highly trustworthy Automotive Controller with a strong sense of urgency, the ability to perform under pressure, and the leadership skills to oversee critical accounting and administrative functions. The Controller will work closely with a supportive General Manager and will be entrusted with maintaining the financial integrity of the operation. The Controller will also be responsible for HR and payroll functions for the dealership. Key Responsibilities
Oversee all dealership accounting functions, including month-end, year-end, and financial reporting
Monitor daily operating control reports and identify variances
Maintain the general ledger and chart of accounts
Oversee and maintain internal controls to prevent fraud and ensure data accuracy
Monitor cash flow, bank reconciliations, and floorplan accounts
Review and manage dealership expenses and vendor contracts
Train, develop, and manage accounting personnel
Handle HR functions, including payroll
Coordinate with department managers to ensure accurate reporting and compliance
Submit required factory reports and ensure compliance with franchise agreements
Ensure dealership accounting complies with GAAP, IRS guidelines, and manufacturer requirements
Partner with upper management on strategic planning and financial decision-making
Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Proven experience as an Automotive Controller in a dealership environment
Strong knowledge of dealership accounting systems and best practices
Ability to lead under pressure while maintaining accuracy and timeliness
High integrity and discretion with sensitive information
HR and payroll experience preferred
Compensation & Benefits
Competitive compensation package in the $175,000 - $200,000 range
depending on experience and track record
