Overview The City of Miami Beach

(pop. 82,890) is seeking an experienced and forward-thinking engineering leader to serve as its next Assistant Director / City Engineer – Public Works. This executive-level position reports to the Public Works Director and plays a key leadership role in one of the City’s most critical and high-performing departments.

Responsibilities Responsibilities include:

Supervising the Engineering and Infrastructure Divisions

Overseeing capital improvement projects, right-of-way and surveying functions

Sealing plans and providing strategic direction for water, sewer, streets, stormwater, warehouse, and pumping operations

Managing CIP and grant-funded projects

Acting as Director when the Public Works Director is absent

Managing the design, permitting, and delivery of complex capital projects

Ensuring regulatory compliance and alignment with city goals for resilience, mobility, and quality of life

Guiding infrastructure planning, construction oversight, right-of-way management, and transportation and environmental review

Working closely with elected officials, regulatory agencies, the development community, and internal departments to advance transformational public infrastructure initiatives

About the Division Located on a seven-mile barrier island between Biscayne Bay and the Atlantic Ocean, Miami Beach is a world-renowned destination and vibrant residential community. The Engineering Division supports long-term success with infrastructure planning, construction oversight, right-of-way management, and regulatory review.

Qualifications Required : A Professional Engineer (PE) license either currently in or eligible for Florida registration; a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a related field; a minimum of seven (7) years of progressively responsible public works or municipal engineering experience, including four (4) years in a supervisory capacity; experience with public infrastructure planning, capital project management, and regulatory permitting.
