The City of Miami Beach (pop. 82,890) is seeking an experienced and forward-thinking engineering leader to serve as its next Assistant Director / City Engineer – Public Works. This executive-level position reports to the Public Works Director and plays a key leadership role in one of the City’s most critical and high-performing departments. Responsibilities

Supervise the Engineering and Infrastructure Divisions, oversee capital improvement projects, right-of-way and surveying functions, seal plans, and provide strategic direction for water, sewer, streets, stormwater, warehouse, and pumping operations. Manage capital improvement program (CIP) and grant-funded projects, and act as Director when the Public Works Director is absent. Oversee the design, permitting, and delivery of complex capital projects, ensuring regulatory compliance and alignment with city goals for resilience, mobility, and quality of life. Guide infrastructure planning, construction oversight, right-of-way management, and transportation and environmental review, working with elected officials, regulatory agencies, the development community, and internal departments to advance transformational public infrastructure initiatives. A Professional Engineer (PE) license either currently in or with eligibility for Florida registration required.

A bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a related field is required. Candidates must have a minimum of seven (7) years of progressively responsible public works or municipal engineering experience, including four (4) years in a supervisory capacity. Experience with public infrastructure planning, capital project management, and regulatory permitting is essential. To Apply
