Develop and refine conceptual and detailed designs for manned and unmanned watercraft, including hull forms, deck structures, custom hatches, and appendages. Perform hydrostatics, stability, seakeeping, and resistance/propulsion analyses to validate vessel performance. Integrate structural, mechanical, and electrical systems into vessel layouts while balancing space, weight, and performance constraints. Develop concepts for alternative and purpose-built crewed and uncrewed vessels, as well as vessel-borne equipment, mechanisms, and devices. Prepare 3D models, drawings, and design documentation using CAD/CAE tools (e.g., MultiSurf, SurfaceWorks, Rhino, SolidWorks, AutoShip, or Maxsurf). Support the design and optimization of structures for unmanned craft, balancing durability with speed and endurance requirements. Collaborate with program, engineering, and fabrication personnel to ensure designs are manufacturable and cost-effective. Provide on-the-floor technical guidance during construction, assembly, and outfitting. Oversee prototype builds, ensuring design intent is maintained while allowing for rapid iteration. Conduct post-build performance evaluations and recommend design improvements based on trials and feedback. Plan and support tank testing, CFD simulations, and full-scale sea trials to validate hydrodynamic and structural performance. Analyze and document test results, translating findings into actionable design modifications. Ensure compliance with regulatory bodies and classification societies (e.g., ABS, USCG, NAVSEA standards where applicable). Work with mechanical, electrical, and controls engineers to integrate propulsion, autonomy, and mission systems into naval designs. Develop and maintain weight estimates, stability data, and system diagrams throughout the project lifecycle. Participate in design reviews, risk assessments, and technical decision-making. Provide naval architecture expertise in proposal development and customer presentations. Qualifications

Bachelors degree in Naval Architecture from an ABET-Accredited institution. 5-10 years relevant experience in Naval Architecture and vessel design. Experience using 3D design software to design ship hullforms. Experience performing hydrostatics, stability, seakeeping, and resistance/propulsion analyses. Experience using SolidWorks designing components, assemblies, and machinery design and layout.
