Overview

The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center is conducting a national search for Chair of the Department of Translational Molecular Pathology. This leader will establish the vision for, guide the development of faculty in, and oversee all operations and functions in the department. Successful candidates will be an accomplished physician-scientist and proven leader. The Department of Translational Molecular Pathology is part of the Division of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine and the Chair reports to the Division Head. The Chair will lead a nationally recognized department and contribute to the prevention and elimination of cancer, transformative research, and exceptional education. Translational Molecular Pathology pursues innovative investigator-initiated research to understand pathological disease and disease progression in cancer. Focus areas include molecular and cell signaling alterations in cancer development, dissemination, and progression; RNA processing and contribution to disease; -OMICs approaches; mechanisms underlying invasion in various cancers; metastatic modeling; and artificial intelligence algorithm development in cancer diagnosis and treatment. Research spans basic to translational approaches, with translation into pathology clinical applications as relevant. The department collaborates with other departments within the Division of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine to develop new and clinically applied technologies for biomarker development and clinical tests. The department also promotes and enhances research across the clinical departments within the Division. Responsibilities

Provide leadership and assume full responsibility for all areas of the department, including basic, translational, and clinical research; faculty development and evaluation; integration of educational programs; finance and budgeting; and departmental strategic planning that aligns with institutional direction. Inspire professional growth by ensuring career development opportunities and mentorship for department faculty and trainees, and foster a positive work environment emphasizing collaboration, collegiality, and wellness. Represent the department, division, and institution in local, regional, state, and national matters. Qualifications

10 years of experience post clinical degree M.D. or M.D./Ph.D. Board certification in Anatomical and/or Clinical Pathology Eligible for unrestricted Texas medical licensure Administrative experience at a departmental or institutional level Proven track record of successful and independent clinical or translational research and grant or protocol funding Consistent record of contributions to education or training and mentoring of trainees, faculty, or staff Progressive leadership experience in an academic setting; preferred experience in an oncologic setting Ability to function effectively in a matrix organization characterized by complex intra- and inter-disciplinary relationships Additional Information
