Lead Mechanical Design Engineer, Data Center Design Engineering

If you can design a mechanical system, understand the critical equipment needs for a data center, and grasp constructability across designs, you may be a good fit. Engineers will take designs from concept through permit and construction document sets, define critical equipment specifications, and approve equipment submittals. You will support construction and be involved from site selection review through commissioning and turnover. You will be relied on as a subject-matter expert in mechanical engineering. You will collaborate with internal groups and external partners including utilities, manufacturers, vendors, and contractors. Travel is occasionally required, up to about 20%, and may include international work. Some international travel may be necessary to support global projects and international schematic design packages. An understanding of international mechanical design requirements is helpful but not mandatory. Key responsibilities
Work with internal teams to understand user requirements. Develop data center mechanical designs and collaborate with other disciplines to create a construction document set. Create designs that meet quality requirements and stay within budget. Work with regional vendors and manufacturers to specify appropriate mechanical equipment. Coordinate with local utilities to define site utility requirements. Collaborate with local agencies to ensure compliance with city/county requirements and building codes. Review and approve equipment submittals. Define project scopes and provide technical support during construction. Work with commissioning teams to validate installation, operation, and performance of mechanical systems. Manage concurrent projects in multiple geographical regions. Travel to sites to perform site reviews and collaborate with onsite field engineers, evaluations, audits, and startup activities as needed. Contribute creative, out-of-the-box solutions while maintaining safety and reliability. About the team and culture

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field with at least 4 years of qualifying experience. 6+ years of experience in design engineering or construction related to mechanical systems (hydronics, air-side duct design, plumbing). 4+ years’ experience using Revit for mechanical & plumbing BIM models and construction drawings. Experience applying local codes, ICC requirements, and other mechanical standards and methodologies. Preferred Qualifications
Experience directly related to construction of data centers, critical facilities, industrial, or large-scale mechanical and power systems. Experience with design reviews, development of design standards, submittal review, and reading construction documents for all trades. Experience with performance-based design approaches and advanced knowledge of mechanical engineering systems. Experience designing high-volume air handling, chilled water systems, economization, and direct/indirect evaporative cooling systems. Professional Engineer license (NCEES Record).
