Overview

HDR is seeking to expand our national Trenchless Services team nationwide. The

Trenchless EIT/ Specialist

will report to the Trenchless Services Engineering Lead, with primary responsibilities supporting the design and field services for trenchless engineering, design, and construction applications. The role supports engineering and design practices, including hydraulic fracture and inadvertent returns analyses, front end information collection (geotechnical investigations and survey coordination), feasibility assessments of trenchless construction, and recommendations for mitigation throughout the project lifecycle (planning through construction). Data management, quality control of design and construction data, planning, and risk management for trenchless initiatives are also part of the responsibilities. The Trenchless EIT/ Specialist will travel to support field-based assignments. Travel frequency and duration depend on workload and may be extensive. Field responsibilities include site reconnaissance, oversight of trenchless pipeline installations, and reporting field activities with high quality data. Regular communication with the Trenchless Services Team and project stakeholders is required while in the field. Responsibilities

Perform desk top route selection and evaluate feasibility for design and construction of trenchless crossings. Carry out site reconnaissance visits. Develop a subsurface investigation program to determine feasibility of trenchless construction methods. Evaluate surface and subsurface conditions to determine feasibility and preferred trenchless construction techniques. Interface with discipline leads and production staff (e.g., geotechnical, CAD) to support development of trenchless design deliverables and communicate frequently. Communicate regularly with clients regarding project status and technical discussions related to trenchless construction applications. Estimate quantities of materials and disposal for trenchless installations; estimate installation loading and stress. Assess applicability of trenchless technologies (HDD, microtunneling, tunneling, Direct Pipe, etc.) and participate in selecting preferred methods. Perform calculations for carrier pipe and coating specifications; define workspace requirements for construction equipment at crossing locations. Prepare and/or review project documentation (design/construction specifications, bid packages, drawings, design reports, engineering assessments, data sets). Build knowledge and use software models for trenchless pipeline design. Interface with project team members outside the Trenchless Team and other company functions on multidisciplinary projects. Develop permit application documents and drawings; ensure compliance with applicable industry standards and governing codes. Prepare field engineering and as-built documents; contribute to updating department standards and lessons learned. Perform construction oversight/observation in the field, monitor daily activities, identify problematic conditions, and provide recommendations. Travel as required by project needs (frequency/duration may be extensive). This position is subject to a pre-employment drug test. Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications Engineering in Training (EIT) certification or ability to obtain; C EIT designation and pursuit of PE credentials. If hired without EIT, title will be Specialist. Bachelor’s degree in engineering, geology, or related discipline. Minimum two years of professional experience in consulting/engineering; experience with HDD, microtunneling, and/or Direct Pipe preferred. Experience in design and knowledge of trenchless construction methods. Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills; team-oriented with accountability and reliability. Strong writing and computer skills (Microsoft Word and Excel); experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D. Ability to manage multiple assignments, prioritize tasks, and work independently while maintaining communication with a distributed team. Self-motivated and capable of working autonomously; able to travel and work in remote environments. Demonstrated time management and work ethic. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Active participation in our employee-owned culture is required.
