Summary – basic function of the role The Category Manager - Indirect is responsible for leading sourcing strategies and supplier management for indirect spend categories such as IT, professional services, marketing, facilities, travel, events and MRO. This role balances cost optimization, supplier innovation, and risk management while partnering closely with internal stakeholders to align on Procurement strategies with business goals within assigned Indirect categories. This role will be based on-site in the Milwaukee, WI USA office Monday through Thursday with remote options on Fridays. Preferably the role would have strategic sourcing experiences managing Travel, Events and Credit / Finance categories and may expand to include other indirect categories over time.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
Category Strategy: Develop and execute category sourcing strategies for assigned indirect spend areas. This includes analysis of supplier spend to understand the current supply base, developing multi-year savings pipelines, monitoring market trends, benchmarks, and supplier innovations to identify opportunities. Understand cost drivers within categories and market trends to assure the lowest Total Cost of Ownership.
Engage global stakeholders to evaluate cross-region opportunities, develop relationships with global peers where applicable, and lead or participate in global strategic sourcing initiatives to leverage scale and share best practices.
Sourcing & Negotiation: Lead RFP/I processes and supplier evaluations for high-value and strategic indirect categories. Manage the full sourcing process from planning to execution, implementation, and performance monitoring, including negotiating contracts, terms and pricing to deliver cost savings and value.
Supplier Management: Build and manage relationships with key suppliers, ensuring performance and compliance. Implement supplier scorecards, KPIs, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Stakeholder Collaboration: Partner with business units to understand demand, budgets, and service needs and provide procurement expertise for project planning and vendor evaluation decisions.
Risk & Compliance: Ensure contracts meet industry and company standards and regulatory requirements, and manage supplier risk assessments and business continuity considerations.
Financial Impact: Track and report cost savings, cost avoidance, working capital and overall value delivery. Support budgeting and forecasting processes related to indirect spend.
Influence organizational capability in Procurement, lead by example in continuous learning and set expectations for high performance.
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Business, Finance, or related field (MBA preferred).
6+ years of strategic sourcing experience in a global matrix organization, focusing on indirect categories, preferably in Travel, Events, Credit / Finance.
Strong negotiation and contract management skills.
Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to influence change and be a change agent.
Proven track record of executing ongoing cost savings, value creation, and supplier innovation.
Excellent analytical, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
Proficiency with procurement systems (e.g., Oracle, Concur, etc.) and Microsoft Office tools.
Strategic mindset with hands-on execution ability.
Relationship builder—able to influence at all levels.
Data-driven decision-making and financial acumen.
Ability to manage multiple strategic projects and priorities simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
Work Environment Primary work environment is a temperature-controlled office setting but may involve visiting different customers where safety protocols at the location are required.
