Drainage Engineer II, District 6/Design/Drainage. This position contributes to the design and engineering of the state drainage and stormwater management systems, providing a safe and efficient system for all users of state road facilities. It also includes reviewing reports and plans of proposed drainage and stormwater systems for state and local roads. The Difference You Will Make

Florida Department of Transportation District 6, 1000 NW 111TH St. Miami, Florida 33172. Your Specific Responsibilities
Performs plans review for all phases of design, including reports and studies. Designs drainage and stormwater management systems relating to highway projects. Prepares calculations used to design drainage/stormwater management systems utilizing computer programs (e.g., ADICPR, HEC-RAS, GEOPAK Drainage, PONDS, etc.). Prepares drainage construction plans and specifications for assigned projects. Maintains knowledge of design criteria, procedures, and engineering policies. Signs and seals engineering documents. Assists project managers with consultant selections, scope preparations, man-hour negotiations, schedules, cost estimates, and related items. Oversees a district-wide drainage design contract, including task work orders, scope of services, invoices, budget management, and related duties. Serves as Engineer of Record and Project Manager for Department Work Program drainage projects. Prepares Bridge Hydraulics Reports and Bridge Hydraulics Recommendation Sheets. Performs hydraulic studies and reports (Location Hydraulic Reports, Pond Siting Reports). Performs field reviews to determine drainage areas and flow patterns, and to establish high-water controls. Prepares drainage maps and determines drainage structure adequacy. Determines and sets right-of-way requirements for drainage. Provides drainage and permitting-related technical support to other Departments and design teams. Coordinates drainage design with other agencies (counties, cities, Water Management Districts). Serves as an expert witness for eminent domain cases. Provides technical guidance to staff in the Drainage Design unit. Perform Other Duties As Required. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge Of project management principles design criteria and plans production process permitting criteria Department criteria for use in review and design of stormwater systems bridge hydraulics and scour determinations CADD software such as OpenRoads (FDOT Connect) contract management and invoicing procedures Skills In using Microsoft programs (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.) using stormwater software report writing negotiating Ability To prepare stormwater calculations and reports apply the proper system to a specific project perform field reviews schedule and monitor design projects and project reviews set priorities communicate and work effectively with others analyze stormwater problems and make timely decisions be proactive exercise good judgment and prudent risk-taking plan and organize work work on multiple projects or assignments meet established deadlines train or instruct others Minimum Qualifications
Registration as a Professional Engineer in accordance with Florida Statute 471 Other Job Related Requirements
