The Role The Lead Engineer is responsible for leadership of the subsystem engineers and for deliverables for all aspects of defined components or systems.
Responsibilities
Establishing, planning and running the engineering sub-system meetings to ensure cross-functional representation and input from all relevant areas.
Thermal System Design & Documentation
Study of Thermal System Layout (HVAC and Powertrain)
Support implementation of design concepts from component design to finished system
Manage activities related to thermal management and aerodynamic performance of the thermal system
Technical responsibility for the thermal design of HVAC systems
Thermal interface across the business with multiple cross-functional teams
Determine & manage requirements, generate and model concepts to meet these requirements, and rank concepts to support down-selection
Analyze and interpret data and present results and solutions
Create System Level DVP and DFMEA
1D / 3D Analysis
Develop 1D GT-Suite models for all the Thermal Systems
Understand client requirements and modify the model
Estimate cooling capacity of HVAC systems
Correlate vehicle test results with 1D model
Inspect CAD models, import and modify using Cool 3D
Implement this model as a simple Heat addition Model for simplification
Integrate correlated Cool 3D model into 1D GT-Suite model
Understand plant model requirements and make necessary modifications
Prepare simulation reports
Testing and Analysis
Develop Test Plan for the RIG and Vehicle (BEV)
Prepare instrumentation list and specify precise instrumentation locations
Participate in vehicle tests
Analyze test results and optimize the system
Other Responsibilities
Establish team work plan
Ensure progress by following up actions with owners
Publish minutes from each meeting
Ensure sub-system delivers objectives and targets (technical and business)
Ensure program timing objectives are met
Communicate team progress to management
Apply APQP to manage system/ component delivery
Ensure vehicle builds are supported with parts at required levels
Escalate unresolved issues to Module Leader
Identify risks to the programme
Knowledge / Experience
Proven project management capability demonstrated by delivery on time & budget
Engineering knowledge of defined components/systems design, function, performance, production & manufacturing requirements
Excellent communication skills at all levels
PC literacy: Microsoft Project, PowerPoint, Excel, Word
Significant experience in FMEA, Six Sigma, problem resolution
Successful history of delivery within the automotive sector
Degree in relevant Engineering discipline or equivalent experience
CAD literacy: ability to manipulate CAD data and use visualization tools
Ability to generate CAD data in Catia v5 is an advantage
Working knowledge of PPAP and related processes
