A Day in the Life
As a Director of Engineering, the candidate selected for this role will become instrumental in defining future product offerings for the Diabetes Operating Unit. Expected to lead a team in the design and development of integrated, novel diabetes products, this individual will be accountable to Mechanical R&D department deliverables, managing resources according to Medtronic and industry policies, standards, and regulations. Further, the candidate will continue to improve departmental procedures while building upon a strong foundation of talent through hiring, coaching, and mentoring. This position will work across functions within R&D, Operations, Product Management, Quality and Regulatory to assure successful execution of the programs. While a hybrid work schedule is acceptable, in order to perform the necessary duties of this role, on-site attendance in the Northridge, CA facility is expected 4 days out of the week. This position is an exciting opportunity to work with Medtronic's Diabetes business. Medtronic has announced its intention to separate the Diabetes division to promote future growth and innovation within the business and reallocate investments and resources across Medtronic, subject to applicable information and consultation requirements. Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned. Defines and executes deliverables in the development of novel diabetes platforms Establishes framework Mechanical R&D to support sustaining activities at manufacturing sites and suppliers Establish, track, and measure outcomes of design integration tranches Ensure design capability by means of comprehensive technical reviews, physical and simulated testing, and robust documentation Working with internal and external partners to produce tooling, platform prototypes, and demonstrate manufacturing capability Responsible for team professional development to promote engagement, growth, job satisfaction and organizational health. Represent the organization as a technical speaker in conferences covering products and technology, as needed Collaborate across Medtronic to ensure best practices are employed in design/development Organizes activities with outside suppliers and consultants to ensure timely delivery Identifies, plans, and maintains resource needs, cost center budget, employee assignment, and staffing decisions Ensures engineering approach and designs conform to applicable industry standards and Medtronic procedures Must Have: Minimum Requirements

15+ years experience engineering experience in medical device industry Direct experience in technical project management and technology risk burndown planning and execution. Experience overseeing design, process development, and V&V activities Experience leading managers or functional leads Masters Degree in Mechanical Engineering Experience in high-volume, electromechanical assemblies Experience in regulated product development environment, and ideally medical device industry. Strong problem-solving, risk assessment, and negotiation skills. Experience with complex, cross-functional projects in a matrixed organization. Experience managing projects in a deadline driven environment Excellent oral and written communication skills, interpersonal skills.
