Contract (~6 months) A leading nonprofit environmental law organization is seeking a Temporary Attorney for a 6-month assignment. In this role, you will contribute to legal advocacy by supporting the development of legal strategy, conducting research, and drafting key documents. Candidates located near Chicago, IL may work on a hybrid basis from the Chicago office, while remote candidates barred in Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Ohio, or Wisconsin will also be considered. The assignment is expected to begin as soon as possible. Responsibilities:
Collaborate with attorneys, staff, and clients to evaluate potential legal challenges affecting communities and the environment Conduct factual investigations, legal research, and analysis Draft memoranda, comments, briefs, and other legal documents Monitor or participate in agency meetings and administrative hearings Duties may vary depending on level of experience Qualifications:
J.D. with 6–8 years of post-graduate legal experience Licensed and in good standing in Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Ohio, or Wisconsin Strong research, writing, analytical, and communication skills Experience with trial or appellate litigation is a plus Ability to work with technical experts Skilled in building and maintaining partnerships with community-based and grassroots groups Capable of managing a litigation docket independently and collaboratively Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, with demonstrated cultural awareness and sensitivity Benefits:
