Job Responsibilities

The

Kent County Courtside Clerk's Office

is seeking a self-motivated

Clerk II

toprovide a variety of clerical support functions to the department, as well as maintain files in accordance with established protocols. Duties include sorting and filing documents, responding to file requests, retrieving, copying, and delivering files to Court employees, as well as scanning and indexing documents within OnBase. This position involves frequent bending, lifting, and moving files from the file room to various locations within the Courthouse and off-site County Archives.

This position offers an excellent opportunity to gain an introductory understanding of the legal world while providing ample opportunities for professional growth and advancement.

What is the function of the Clerk's Office - Courtside, do you ask? The Clerk of the Court in Kent County Circuit Court is responsible for maintaining records of all lawsuits filed, including civil actions where damages exceed $25,000, family matters such as divorce, paternity, custody, and support, and felony cases. The Clerk's office also collects payments for fines, costs, and restitution ordered in criminal matters. Court files are public records and can be inspected at the Clerk's office.

High school graduate or GED and one year of clerical experience. An equivalent combination of education and work experience may be considered.

Requires skill in filing, maintaining office records, and operating various office equipment. Must be self-motivated, organized, detail-oriented, and proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook applications. Excellent communication skills and the ability to professionally interact with the general public.
