Job Description:
BROAD FUNCTION
The Admissions Specialist professionally represents Onondaga Community College both on and off campus to prospective students, parents, families, secondary school counselors and the community. Responsible for proactively identifying, tracking, communicating, and engaging with prospective students in accordance with the College's Strategic Plan, Division Operational Plan, and college recruitment strategy.
The Admissions Specialist coordinates student visits and recruitment programs, including high school visit days, campus tours, college fairs, community events, open houses, and other opportunities designed to interact with and promote the college and its offerings to key audiences. As such, responsibilities include maintaining knowledge on OCC programs and services as well as best practices and trends in admission in higher education.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES Plan and lead recruitment events, campus tours, and presentations to engage prospective students and families. Manage a recruitment territory consisting of high schools, community-based organizations and other organizations and special populations, primarily in Central New York but also located throughout the state. Guide prospective credit and non-credit students through each step of the enrollment process, connecting them with college resources. Develop and maintain regular communication with prospective students through phone, email, text, live chat, and other channels. Develop and cultivate relationships with assigned schools, community-based organizations and other connected organizations and populations including prospective students, families, business partners and school counselors. Coordinate and implement admission appointments, application days, workshops, open houses, career days, college fairs, and other recruitment efforts. Keep current on trends and best practices regarding the community college industry, community trends, workforce development initiatives and student recruitment and make recommendations as appropriate. Contribute ideas for innovative strategies to reach and engage prospective student populations. Track outreach activities and student interactions in Slate (CRM); keeping records accurate and up to date. Attend professional meetings, conferences, and professional employee development offerings as required. Performs other related duties as assigned
Requirements:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Associate degree from an accredited college, university, or foreign equivalency with at least two years of recruitment, customer service, sales, and/or direct marketing experience. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college, university, or foreign equivalency. Experience in higher education, particularly a community college setting. Community college graduate Familiarity with Microsoft Office and CRM tools Bilingual in English and Spanish. English and another language can be considered. This position requires:
Ability to travel locally and statewide year-round; must be able to transport admissions materials and equipment. Evening and weekend hours will be required. Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team. Ability to bring energy, encouragement and positive reinforcement to prospective students throughout their application process and beyond. Strong cross-cultural, interpersonal, organizational and writing skills are necessary, including public speaking skills and the ability to present the College in a positive way. Must be able to speak before large and small groups with confidence. Excellent professional judgment, emotional intelligence, and personal tact. Other Requirements:
A valid driver's license and reliable vehicle Ability to travel by vehicle or air, locally, statewide and/or out of state
Additional Information:
Salary range is: $44,000 - $55,000, commensurate with credentials and relevant experience. Onondaga Community College offers a generous and competitive benefits package including:
