Overview

This position acts as the second in command to the Chief of Facilities Maintenance (i.e., Utility Senior Services Administrator). Incumbent has oversight responsibilities for plant maintenance, electrical maintenance and mechanical maintenance departments. The position directs the inspection of equipment to assess repair needs, as well as perform review of the work and assesses adherence to codes. Responds to citizen complaints and problems; researches and implements new maintenance and management programs and methodologies; creates weekly, monthly, and annual reports; and related work as required. Responsibilities Oversee plant maintenance, electrical maintenance, and mechanical maintenance departments. Direct the inspection of equipment to assess repair needs and review of the work for adherence to codes. Respond to citizen complaints and problems; research and implement new maintenance and management programs and methodologies. Create weekly, monthly, and annual reports; perform related work as required.

Qualifications

Original Entrance A Bachelor's degree* from an accredited college or university with a major in Mechanical, Electrical, Civil Engineering, or a related field. Six (6) years of exempt, senior level professional experience in the areas of electrical, mechanical, power plant, and transmission systems maintenance. At least two (2) years of this experience must have included supervisory responsibilities for a major division.

Promotional A Bachelor's degree* from an accredited college or university with a major in Mechanical, Electrical, Civil Engineering, or a related field. Permanent status with the Sewerage & Water Board as a Utility Senior Services Manager or higher in the Facilities Maintenance Department and three (3) years of experience in that classification.

OTE:

Additional experience in electrical maintenance, mechanical Maintenance, Power Plant maintenance, and high voltage maintenance may substitute for the bachelors degree at the rate of one (1) year of related experience equals one (1) year of college credits. Note:

Prior to appointment, the hiring agency is required to verify education and certifications claimed by the applicant to qualify for this classification. Domicile requirements are currently waived for the purpose of application. Residency requirements are waived for all Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans positions vacant and advertised for at least 90 days. Employees hired under this waiver remain exempt from the city's residency requirement for the duration of their employment at the Sewerage and Water Board. (La R.S. 33:4076). Additional exceptions to the domicile requirement may be made on a case-by-case basis.
