We are looking for a friendly and approachable person to join us at our busy GP surgery. You will need to be an effective team player, cope well under pressure, demonstrate good organisational skills and be able offer a high level of customer service. The surgery is based on two sites. Previous Receptionist experience is essential.
26.25 hoursper week Monday to Friday. You will need to be able to cover hours both AM shifts - 8.00am - 1.15pm & PM shifts 1.15pm - 6.30pm. Over a 2 week period you will receive 5 AM shifts & 5 PM shifts.

Main duties of the job
Reception staff are the first point of contact for our patients. We are seeking a confident, reliable and flexible staff member to work with our large reception team to help with a variety of practice tasks, from answering patient queries, processing documents and ordering patient prescriptions.
The role is a fast paced and exciting opportunity for a candidate seeking a challenging role.
About us
We are a semi rural GP Practice running over two sites (a mile part). A very supportive team consisting of 6 GP Partners, 5 salaried GPs, 3 retainer GP and a large nursing team.
Our patient list size is 22,000 and growing due to housing developments.
The Successful candidate will work alongside our friendly team to deliver care to patients accessing primary care.
Job responsibilities
Job Summary:
Receive, assist and direct patients inaccessing the appropriate service or healthcare professional in a courteous,efficient and effective way.
Providegeneral assistance to the Practice team and project a positive and friendlyimage to patients and other visitors, either in person or via the telephone
Job Responsibilities:
- Ensurean effective and efficient reception service is provided to patients andany other visitors to the Practice
- Dealwith all general enquiries, explain procedures and make new and follow-upappointments.
- Usingyour own judgment and communication skills ensure that patients with noprior appointment but who need urgent consultation are seen in a logicaland non-disruptive manner.
- ExplainPractice arrangements and formal requirements to new patients and thoseseeking temporary cover and ensure procedures are completed.
- Receiveand make telephone calls as required.Divert calls and take messages, ensuring accuracy of detail andprompt appropriate delivery.
- Takerequests for home visits recording as per practice protocol, ensuringcareful recording of all relevant details and where necessary refer toDuty Doctor.
- Actionrepeat prescription requests and ensure that they are ready for collectionby the patient within 48 hours, either on the computer or manually.
- Advisepatients of relevant charges for private (non General Medical Services)services, accept payment and issue receipts for same.
- Enterpatient information on to the computer as required.
- Patientnotes and correspondence:
Retrieveand re-file records as required, ensuring strict alphabetical order is adheredto
Ensurecorrespondence, reports, results etc are scanned promptly in the correctrecords, ensuring that all recent correspondence is available when patients areseen.
Ensurerecords are kept in good repair with all necessary information on the outsidecover clearly visible.
- Makeand serve refreshments, ensure the kitchen is kept clean and tidy and airand tidy the waiting room in turn with other staff.
Openup premises at the start of the day when first to arrive, de-activate alarm andmake all necessary preparations to receive patients.
Whenlast to leave at the end of the day, ensure that the building is totallysecured, internal lights are off and the alarm activated.
- Ensurethat all new patients are registered onto the computer system promptly andaccurately
- Undertakeany other additional duties appropriate to the post as requested by thePartners or the Practice Manager.

Person Specification
Qualifications
- GCSE Level or Above
- ECDL or equivalent
Experience
- Dealing with the public/patients/customer care
- Multi tasking/working under pressure
- Excellent communication skills (oral and written)
- Use of SystmOne
- Experience in primary care/NHS/caring profession
Knowledge and Skills
- Good at problem solving
- Good keyboard and computer skills
- IT literate including experience in using Word and Excel at intermediate level
- Experience of complex administration and record keeping in an office environment
