The Department of Human Genetics is currently seeking a full-time Manager, Programs to work in Miami. The Manager, Programs provides direction, leadership, and day-to-day management of educational and departmental activities and is responsible for the continued growth and maintenance of all graduate medical education programs by assisting the Program Director, and primary oversight of graduate students.
The Manager, Programs will be responsible for overseeing activities and functions of the Interdepartmental Ph.D. Program in Human Genetics and Genomics (HGG) and the Master of Science in Genomic Medicine (MSGM) program to ensure that goals and objectives specified for the programs are accomplished. Works closely with the faculty program director(s) and other assigned faculty in administrative support capacity performing extensive tasks. This role oversees 39 masters’ and 15 Ph.D. students.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Develops and independently implements new or revised program goals and objectives. Coordinates activities of program with inter-related activities of other programs, departments or staff to ensure optimum efficiency and compliance with appropriate policies, procedures, specifications, and funding limitations. Acts as a main point of contact for project funders, advisors, speakers, and participants. Counsels staff, students, and others to provide technical advice, problem-solving assistance, answers to questions, and program goals and policy interpretations. Develops and facilitates workshops, meetings, or conferences with high impact on program and/or participants. Evaluates program effectiveness to develop improved methods. Analyzes results and recommends and/or takes appropriate action. Prepares periodic reports, financial statements, and records on program activities, progress, status, or other special reports for management or outside agencies. Recruits MSGM program participants, members, and volunteers utilizing most appropriate promotional or marketing methods. Coordinates application and admission activities for the MSGM program. Analyzes and implements the most effective communication options for meeting departmental and education goals. Creates program handbooks and entries in UM academic bulletin, coordinates scheduling of graduate courses, facilitates curriculum changes. Responsible for the management and oversight of appointments, payroll activities, benefits, accreditation requirements, qualifications for board eligibility, performance evaluation system. Processes student registrations, coordinates grade submissions, documents student progress meetings. Organizes annual MSGM student Capstone symposium and bimonthly Capstone journal club and case conferences. Coordinates faculty responsibilities, faculty seminar series, student journal clubs, monthly program Steering Committee and Educator’s meetings, annual faculty meetings, and annual HGG Open House. Acts as a liaison with the Office of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies to report on student progress. Manages course/exam evaluations and summarizes results for use in program improvements and faculty promotion and tenure discussions. Creates seminar announcements and disseminates throughout the UM research community. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to develop, coordinate, and evaluate a program that is designed to expand and improve. Ability to analyze and evaluate programmatic and administrative activities, make comprehensive studies and evaluations, and prepare detailed reports and recommendations. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other department staff, students, and the general public. Ability to express ideas and information clearly, concisely, verbally, and in writing. Familiarity with DHRS, Blackboard, Graduate Studies System, RDS, CMS, Panopto. Education Requirements:
