Data Scientist

to support the Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Office of the Chief Information Officer (HUD OCIO). The Data Scientist will analyze, model, and simulate data supporting HUD AI/ML proofs of concept and pilots. Additionally, the Data Scientist will develop predictive models, simulations, and decision-theory frameworks to enhance system functionality, operational efficiency, and mission alignment. This is a hybrid remote position based in Washington, D.C. that will require some onsite work at the customer’s locations. An estimated 25% annual travel within the U.S. will be required. Responsibilities

Develop statistical models, machine learning algorithms, and simulations using Python. Analyze HUD datasets, implement data preprocessing, and assess data quality for AI workflows. Collaborate with HCD/UX and front-end teams to ensure models are operationalized effectively. Evaluate model performance, validate results, and iterate for improvement. Support AI governance by documenting models, decisions, assumptions, and ethical safeguards. Maintain version-controlled code and reproducible workflows for HUD audit and compliance. Requirements

Required Experience and Skills

5+ years of experience in data science, statistical modeling, or AI/ML projects. Experience developing predictive models, simulations, and decision-support tools. Familiarity with federal datasets and AI governance requirements preferred. Strong Data processing, cleaning, transformation, and engineering capabilities. Federal-scale datasets, such as SQL, NoSQL, Spark, Kafka, or cloud-native pipelines. Previous experience supporting HUD OCIO preferred. Ability to pass required Federal background screening and obtain and maintain both government clearance and customer approval. Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the future. Technical Skills

Python (pandas, NumPy, scikit-learn, TensorFlow/PyTorch) Statistical modeling, simulation, and decision theory Data visualization: Matplotlib, Seaborn, Plotly Version control: Git/GitHub/GitLab Experience with AI/ML lifecycle and reproducible workflows Core Competencies

An analytical and problem-solving mindset Collaboration with UX, DevOps, and front-end teams Documentation and knowledge transfer for governance compliance Iterative testing and validation of AI-enabled solutions Ethical and privacy-conscious model design Education and Training

Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Data Science, Mathematics, Computer Science, or related field (required) Master’s degree in Data Science, AI, or related field (preferred) Python, machine learning, or data science certifications preferred Physical Requirements

Candidates must reside in or within daily commuting distance of Washington, D.C. Must be willing and able to travel an estimated 25% of time within the U.S. Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. May need to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally. Pay Range

The projected annual salary range for this position is $122,900 – $140,000 USD. Benefits Information
