Overview

Liberty Mutual Surety is currently recruiting for a Surety Executive Underwriter to join our Northeast Large Contract team. As a Surety Executive Underwriter you will develop and underwrite profitable surety business, and service independent agents, brokers, and large contract accounts within an assigned territory. You will also use your business and financial acumen to perform primary credit underwriting and financial/risk analysis, provide recommendations, and make decisions on new and existing accounts. Responsibilities

Underwrite and negotiate accounts to maximize profitability whilst minimizing risk, including the most complex accounts based on level of responsibility. Conduct thorough evaluations of a customer’s financial, technical, organizational, and management capacities, including experience and objectives, as well as an assessment of character. Manage the profitability and retention of an assigned book of business while continuing to develop the portfolio through strong relationships and active engagement with new and existing agents and brokers. May assist in developing the marketing plan. Perform analytical evaluations of financial statements on static and trend bases. Determine the current and historical financial position of accounts and monitor risk through analysis of quarterly statements and work-in-progress data as appropriate. Stay abreast of Liberty Mutual Surety and Global Risk Solutions product lines and identify/promote opportunities with agents and brokers, leveraging domestic and global capabilities. Investigate, analyze, and manage underwriting, accounting, and workflow issues within the framework of Surety policies and procedures. Assess changes in business aspects including work programs, financial strength criteria, inherent risk, data flow accuracy/timeliness, and exposure analyses. Coordinate and surface issues to Home Office Underwriters and Field Management. Assist in evaluating business continuity arrangements and funding mechanisms to preclude financial drain in the event of a ownership change or other insurable loss. Mentor more junior staff as appropriate to level. Perform special projects and other duties as assigned. Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting or equivalent with a minimum of 7 years of experience expected; preferably 10+ years of surety underwriting experience and/or equivalent surety related business experience. Strong preference for large contract surety product line. Solid understanding of financial and accounting principles and the ability to demonstrate sound business judgment in evaluating financial condition and credit history. Proven analytical ability to evaluate and judge surety underwriting risks within scope of responsibility. AFSB certification preferred. Strong ability to communicate complex analyses and information in understandable written and/or oral form for underwriting or training purposes. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Salary and level are based on experience and location. About Us & Pay Philosophy

The full salary range reflects the competitive labor market value for all employees in these positions across the national market and provides opportunities to progress as employees grow.
