The CIS Thrift Store, operated by Communities In Schools of South Central Texas, is a mission-driven retail space that supports local students and families through the sale of donated goods. Proceeds directly fund CIS of South Central Texas programs that help at-risk youth stay in school and succeed in life. We are seeking a Thrift Store Manager who is passionate about community impact and skilled in retail and thrift store operations. This leadership role oversees the daily operations of the store, manages staff and volunteers, ensures excellent customer service, and drives sales to support CIS initiatives. This is a full-time position with an expected work week of 40 hours or more as business demands require. The Store Manager’s schedule includes opening and closing shifts Tuesday through Saturday as required, with up to three Monday morning shifts per month. Additional hours may be required for shift coverage. The Store Manager leads the thrift store team, promotes the CIS mission, and oversees the store’s social media to support store operations and fundraising. Essential duties, responsibilities & competencies

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following: Continuously displays a positive and friendly attitude and maintains strong leadership presence Guide and support employees and volunteers from an encouraging leadership role Train new employees and volunteers in all aspects of their jobs and responsibilities Demonstrate appreciation for all employees and volunteers Use language appropriate for the thrift store environment Dress appropriately as Store Manager to lead by example Maintain a culture of honesty, integrity, teamwork, respect, and compassion Consult with staff regularly to address issues and share ideas Professionally resolve customer complaints Handle cash, make deposits timely, and manage bank changes as needed Oversee processing of donations, item rotation, and disposal of unacceptable items; assist with processing as needed Create and adjust clear sales displays Maintain a safe and clean store Assist with loading/unloading furniture as needed Keep records of sales, deposits, volunteers, and daily activity Plan and prepare work schedules for employees and volunteers Complete required office responsibilities (monitoring, emails, daily operations) Post to social media to highlight daily sales, new items, volunteer shoutouts, and staff appreciation Conduct applicant interviews, initiate hiring, and onboard new volunteers Make and receive professional phone calls Develop, implement, and maintain written procedures and pricing guidelines Attend Thrift Store Committee and staff meetings as needed Make clear closing announcements over the intercom Treat customers, CIS clients, employees, and volunteers with respect and care Communicate with Site Coordinators regarding clients/vouchers as needed Educate customers, employees and volunteers about CIS SCT’s mission and thrift store contributions Attend trainings as needed from other departments Supervisory responsibilities

Manages Assistant Store Manager, Shift Lead, and 5 to 7 Store Associates. Responsible for overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of the Thrift Store team. Conducts interviewing, hiring, onboarding, training, performance appraisals, and disciplinary actions as needed. Requirements

Minimum qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)

Valid Texas Driver’s License and ability to operate a motor vehicle for job responsibilities At least 2 years of thrift/consignment/retail experience Technology skills with Clover or Square (POS), SharePoint, Microsoft Word and Excel, Canva, Paylocity (HRIS) and social media platforms Ability to read and interpret documents; speak effectively before groups Exceptional people and customer service skills; creative design and display skills Social media skills to attract customers and promote CIS and the Thrift Store Conflict resolution skills; ability to adapt and make quick decisions Ability to understand and enforce CIS policies Desire to work hard and make a difference; willingness to learn Required education and experience

High School Diploma or higher Leadership/management experience of at least 2 years Previous thrift store or similar environment experience processing/evaluating items for resale (2+ years) Preferred education and experience

5+ years of thrift store experience in processing and evaluating items for resale Physical demands and work environment

Typical physical requirements include standing up to 6 hours, frequently lifting up to 25 lbs, occasionally up to 50 lbs, occasional pushing/pulling up to 100 lbs, moving furniture with assistance, climbing stairs, and exposure to variable temperatures and noise. Travel requirements
