Overview

Stanford University is seeking a Life Science Research Professional 2 to perform more complex functions and activities involved in defined research projects, and independently conduct a portion of the research project(s) in the Stanford Radiology program. The Radiology team is focused on imaging science, cancer detection, and related translational research, with emphasis on innovation in physics, engineering, and informatics for precision health. Responsibilities

Independently conduct a portion of the research project(s). Make recommendations on experimental design and/or research direction to the principal investigator. Independently conduct complex lab and/or field experiments to gather data for a portion of a major research project. Interpret and analyze results, often where few guidelines exist, and modify existing procedures and protocols as needed. Develop new research protocols where appropriate or where literature does not describe standard procedures. Participate in multidisciplinary teams across different faculties or schools. Perform ongoing literature reviews to stay current with new procedures and related research; apply findings to ongoing research and development of new protocols. Contribute to preparation of papers for publication, particularly in the results section, and present ongoing work to colleagues and/or academic conferences. Oversee supply and equipment budgets under the supervision of the principal investigator or business manager. Ensure lab compliance with health and safety regulations and required trainings; work with the health and safety department as needed. Supervise staff or students as needed, including oversight of techniques and consultation on project work; serve as a technical resource for other research staff. Oversee daily laboratory activities, maintain lab stock and safety records, manage chemical inventory, and provide general lab support as needed. May assist with purchasing laboratory equipment. Other duties may also be assigned. Desired Qualifications

Our diverse team is looking for a researcher with excellent written and verbal communication skills to assist with laboratory and computational studies. Educational background may include a B.S. in biological, chemical, or physical sciences, mathematics, computer science, engineering, or biostatistics. Computational researchers with limited biology experience and strong interest in learning wet-lab techniques, and biologists with mathematical or programming experience are encouraged to apply. Typical responsibilities include literature searches, data collection/annotation/analyses, basic computational modeling, and basic laboratory experiments. Education & Experience (required)

Bachelor's degree in a related scientific field with two years of relevant work experience, or Master’s degree in a related scientific field. Knowledge, Skills And Abilities (required)

Comprehensive understanding of scientific principles. General computer skills and ability to quickly learn and master computer programs, databases, and scientific applications. Strong analytical skills and good judgment. Ability to maintain detailed records of experiments and outcomes. Ability to work under deadlines with general guidance. Excellent organizational skills and demonstrated ability to complete detailed work accurately. Physical Requirements

Frequently stand, walk, bend, stoop, squat, and perform desk-based tasks; ability to lift and move objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Occasionally sit, kneel, crawl, reach, and work above shoulder level. Must have corrected vision to perform duties. Ability to work in environments with dust, odors, or hazardous materials. Position may require repetitive motion; may require extended or unusual work hours. Working Conditions

May require working in close proximity to blood-borne pathogens and animals used for teaching and research. May work with hazardous materials or infectious diseases and use personal protective equipment as required. Occasionally may require extended or unusual work hours based on research needs. The expected pay range for this position is $85,376 to $99,581 per annum.
