The work youll do
The Cannabis Expungement Board (CEB) is filling multiple Staff Attorneys. These positions will play a key role in creating and executing the legal and procedural framework for determining eligibility for expungement of criminal records. They will conduct legal research and investigations, and review and analyze eligible cases to support the preparation of a formal recommendation of cases for review by the Board. They will assist and present recommendations regarding expungement and/or resentencing on cases to the Board and may also represent CEB at District Court hearings regarding expungement or resentencing. Classification, Staff Attorney 1 vs Staff Attorney 2, and salary will be determined based on selected finalists qualifications.
Responsibilities
Conduct legal research and investigations related to expungement and resentencing. Review and analyze eligible cases to prepare formal recommendations for Board review. Assist and present recommendations regarding expungement and/or resentencing to the Board. May represent the CEB at District Court hearings regarding expungement or resentencing.
Minimum Qualifications
To be qualified for and considered for this position, applicants must meet all of the minimum qualifications listed below. A resume describing work experiences with beginning and ending month/year is required. A cover letter is strongly encouraged. Staff Attorney 1
JD Degree from an ABA-accredited law school Current license or eligibility for licensure and in good standing to practice law in the State of Minnesota (license must be current prior to start date). One (1) year of experience in a legal setting (includes internships, externships, clerkships, clinics, or volunteer activities). Staff Attorney 2
JD Degree from an ABA-accredited law school Current license and in good standing to practice law in the State of Minnesota Three (3) years of experience as a criminal law attorney
Preferred Qualifications
Current license and in good standing to practice law in Minnesota Experience in criminal or expungement law Experience calculating or working with criminal history scores and felony sentencing Experience working with individuals impacted by the criminal justice system Courtroom experience Strong writing and presentation skills
