The Department of Anesthesiology at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a full-time Professor & Chair. Reporting to the Dean of the College of Medicine, the successful candidate will: Recruit, direct, and develop a faculty who, as a group, can provide the full range of anesthesia services, which includes: 20 full-time clinical faculty that care for patients at University Hospital at Downstate and the ambulatory surgery unit at Kings County Hospital Center A 4-year accredited Residency Program with 17 Residents at each training level The College of Medicine Anesthesiology Clerkship with approximately 10 students per each two-week rotation Be responsible for administrative operations of the academic Department of Anesthesiology in the College of Medicine. Be responsible for the oversight and success of the academic mission of the department and its faculty throughout the DHSU academic system, including its teaching enterprise in medical student education (UME), resident education (GME), and Continuing Medical Education (CME), as well as the department's research enterprise. Work with leadership of University Hospital at Downstate and its affiliated teaching hospitals (which include Kings County Hospital Center, Maimonides Medical Center, the Brooklyn Veteran's Administration Medical Center, and One Brooklyn Health) and with the Clinical Practice Management Plan (Downstate Health Physicians), the Chair will be responsible for oversight of the academic programs and the associated clinical enterprise. Endeavor to advance faculty development in clinical and academic skills within the department and throughout the entire network. Act in concert with the Chair of the Department of Surgery in providing oversight of the Operating Rooms, and in working to improve the efficiency of Perioperative Services. Lead the faculty (both current and those recruited) at all sites in the development of innovative clinical and basic research initiatives, either independently or in collaboration with other investigators on our faculty, other schools, and community organizations. Maintain and enhance Downstate's residency program and our clerkship offering for medical students. Have the demonstrated capacity to foster an environment in which excellence in teaching, research and scholarship flourish, as well as experience in developing and leading clinical, educational and research programs. Required Qualifications Medical Doctor Degree. New York State Medical Licensure. Board certified in Anesthesiology. Qualified for appointment as Professor on tenure track with a significant history of academic leadership and productivity in scholarship.
