We are currently seeking a motivated and driven Principal Mechanical Engineer to join our Ground Equipment Design Team. The ideal candidate will bring a blend of technical expertise, mechanical hardware design experience, system integration skills, and a strong background in program execution and production support. Role is an On-Site role in Tewksbury or Andover, MA Key Responsibilities: Perform mechanical design, development, and documentation of components, subassemblies, and major end items for defense systems, aligned with system requirements. Oversee small to mid-sized cross-functional engineering teams as the technical execution lead across all phases—from proposal generation and program initiation through design and into production. Serve as the technical focal point for mechanical or cross-functional teams within an Integrated Product Team (IPT) environment. Provide support for product integration with domestic and international factories and suppliers. Collaborate with engineering and non-engineering disciplines, and suppliers, to resolve technical challenges and develop robust design solutions. Work independently with minimal supervision while ensuring schedule, cost, and technical commitments are met. Support and participate in design peer reviews, and conduct trade studies to enable sound technical decision-making. Apply mechanical engineering knowledge to solve problems and support hardware development in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment. Mentor and guide junior engineers, fostering growth and knowledge sharing within the team. Required Skills: Minimum of 8 years of experience in Mechanical Engineering, including at least 3 years of hands-on design and development of mechanical equipment (preferably in military or defense environments). Proven experience spanning concept development, detailed design, transition to production, and sustainment. Strong background in mechanical design, material selection, and manufacturing processes. Proficiency in CAD design tools, specifically Pro/ENGINEER (ProE) and CREO, including Large Assembly Management. Familiarity with Product Data Management (PDM) systems: part structures, CNs (Change Notices), PRECOs (Preliminary Engineering Change Orders), and initial releases. Demonstrated creative problem-solving capabilities. Desired Skills: Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent years of experience in a related role or discipline. Excellent communication, technical writing, presentation, and interpersonal skills. Working knowledge of Military and Commercial Specifications. Experience with: Design and integration of electronic and shelter assemblies, Power distribution equipment packaging, Rack system integration, Troubleshooting electromechanical systems, Interconnects, Cables, and Harness systems, CNC machined components and welded assembly design, ASME Y14.5 Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) proficiency. Experience with structural design and analysis. Strong skills in mechanical CAD modeling and drafting. Understanding of manufacturing systems and electromechanical production environments. Experience working within an Integrated Product Team, collaborating across Engineering, Operations, Supply Chain, and Quality teams. Ability to work effectively under pressure, meet deadlines, and manage priorities with minimal conflict. Flexibility and willingness to adapt to varied and evolving assignments. Strong team leadership and collaboration skills. Prior experience managing engineering risk and opportunity, as well as contributing to or leading proposal efforts. Earned Value Management (EVM) and Estimate at Completion (EAC) experience. Active or prior Secret Clearance is a plus.
