The Advanced Practice Provider in the Section of Urology works collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team, using advanced clinical skills and knowledge to provide assessment, evaluation, testing, treatment, therapies, medical management, and other direct care to patients under the care of the University of Chicago Medicine. This position will support the Gender Affirmation program and ambulatory practice in the Hyde Park and UChicago Medicine offsite practices.
Responsibilities
Provides surgical and clinical support in multiple locations including but not limited to Hyde Park and River East.
Assists in team effort to prepare for and expedite the start of surgery in the OR.
Provides the appropriate preparation of the patient for surgery.
Provides appropriate preoperative and postoperative instructions and facilitates discharge planning.
Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental, and infection control standards.
Rounds and provides clinical care for in-house patients.
Prepares charts for clinic (i.e. obtaining IOE, outside records, pre-charting).
Assists physicians and provides independent clinical care to patients in the clinic.
Follows through in the outpatient setting via communication with appropriate health care providers to assure that proper care and follow-up is provided.
Collaborates with care team members and multi-disciplinary team members to provide direct in- and out- patient care.
Participates in self and peer evaluation to improve quality of care.
Establishes and maintains a collaborative relationship with health care colleagues.
Demonstrates effective use of verbal, non-verbal and written communication skills using strategies that promote problem resolution.
Keeps knowledge base current by reading professional literature and attending educational conferences.
Designs patient education programs that include information required to make informed health care and treatment decisions.
Develops diagnostic strategies and therapeutic interventions needed to achieve the goals and outcomes of the patient’s plan of care.
Performs other related work as needed.
Education and Qualifications Minimum Qualifications Education: a college or university degree from an accredited school/college.
Work Experience: a minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience in a related job discipline.
Certifications: current and/or eligible for State of Illinois licensure/registration. Eligibility to be privileged and credentialed through the Medical Staff Office (MSO).
Licenses and Certifications
For Advanced Practice Nurse: Current Advanced Practice Nurse license in the State of Illinois or eligibility to receive by start date.
Current Registered Nurse license in the State of Illinois or eligibility to receive by start date.
For Physician Assistant: Current Physician Assistant license/registration in the State of Illinois or eligibility to receive by start date.
Certification from the National Commission for the Certification of Physician Assistants NCCPA by start date.
Preferred Qualifications
An advanced degree or equivalent, if license received prior to July 1, 2001, from an accredited school/college of nursing or completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program accredited by ARC-PA.
