Overview
Lead Narrative Designer role at ProbablyMonsters. A preproduction opportunity for a narrative professional who can move between high-level creative discussions and hands-on technical execution, reporting to the Creative Services Director. You will own narrative alongside collaborating with art, design, and engineering leadership to deliver a compelling experience within an established creative framework.
Responsibilities
Primary focus on narrative content creation with significant hands-on implementation in Unreal Engine
Execute on an existing narrative framework and direction, bringing it to life through both writing and design
Develop a cohesive science fiction world through environmental storytelling, dialogue, and in-game lore
Collaborate with engineering to define and refine narrative tools and systems
Partner with art and design leadership to ensure narrative supports the overall game vision
Implement and tune dialogue systems, triggers, and other narrative elements to create orchestrated story moments
Provide narrative direction across all aspects of the game, from character backstories to environmental storytelling
Iterate and refine narrative elements based on playtesting feedback
Maintain consistency of tone, voice, and narrative quality across all game content
Balance narrative pacing with gameplay flow in a co-op side-scrolling experience
Qualifications
5+ years of game narrative experience with at least one shipped title in a narrative-focused role
Demonstrated experience with Unreal Engine, including Blueprint scripting for narrative implementation
Proven ability to both write compelling game narrative and implement it technically
Experience serving as the primary narrative owner on a project
Strong understanding of narrative systems design and implementation
Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate across disciplines
Preferred Skills
Background in co-op or local multiplayer narrative design
Experience in narrative tools development on a small project
Background in side-scroller or platformer narrative design
Experience joining projects during preproduction and seeing them through to ship
