Complex Claims Consultant - Architect & Engineer Liability role at CNA Insurance. This position handles Architect and Engineer liability claims; claims can be highly complex and valued in the multi-million dollar range. Insurance litigation and coverage interpretation/analysis experience is strongly desired. The candidate should have attended mediations and negotiated settlements involving insurance claims. This professional liability role will be dedicated exclusively to handling claims against design professionals including Architects, Engineers, Surveyors, Construction Managers, contractors and specialty contractors. New assignments require significant investigation and coordination due to technical complexity. Using corporate claim policies and guidelines, the claims consultant reviews coverage, secures and analyzes information to determine liability and substantiate damages, directs and controls litigation, and negotiates and settles claims. This position offers a flexible, hybrid work schedule and is available in any location near a CNA office. Responsibilities

Manages an inventory of highly complex claims, with large exposures requiring specialized technical expertise and coordination, verifies policy coverage, conducts investigations, develops and employs resolution strategies, and authorizes disbursements within authority limits. Ensures exceptional customer service by managing all aspects of the claim, communicating professionally, meeting quality and cycle time standards, providing timely updates, and responding to inquiries and requests for information. Verifies coverage and establishes reserves by interpreting policy language and partnering with coverage counsel on complex matters, estimating potential claim valuation, and following claim handling protocols. Leads focused investigation to determine compensability, liability and covered damages by gathering contracts and documents, taking statements, and working with experts or other parties as necessary. Resolves claims by developing, owning and executing a claim resolution strategy, managing reserves, negotiating complex settlements, coordinating with counsel on complex litigation, and authorizing payments within authority. Establishes and manages claim budgets by ensuring timely resolution, overseeing resources, authorizing expenses, and delivering high quality service efficiently. Addresses subrogation/salvage opportunities or potential fraud by evaluating facts and referring to appropriate resources for further investigation. Maintains quality standards by ensuring adherence to company protocols, accurate and timely work, proper documentation, and timely resolution and payment of claims. Informs senior leadership of significant risks and losses via loss summaries and succinct senior management updates. Maintains subject matter expertise and regulatory compliance by staying current on commercial insurance laws, regulations, and trends relevant to the line of business. Mentors and trains less experienced Claim Professionals. Skills, Knowledge & Abilities

Thorough knowledge of the commercial insurance industry, products, policy language, coverage, and claim practices. Strong verbal and written communication and presentation skills. Analytical and investigative mindset with critical thinking and ability to resolve complex problems. Strong work ethic, time management and organizational skills. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with high productivity. Demonstrated ability to negotiate complex settlements and interpret complex commercial insurance policies. Ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment. Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and ability to learn business-related software. Value diverse opinions and ideas. Education & Experience

Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience. Typically a minimum of six years of relevant experience, preferably in claim handling. Must have or be able to obtain and maintain an Insurance Adjuster License within 90 days of hire, where applicable. Prior negotiation experience. Professional designations preferred (e.g., CPCU). In Illinois/New York/California, the average base pay range for a Complex Claims Consultant is $113,000 to $160,000. Salary determinations are based on factors including relevant work experience, skills, certifications and location. In District of Columbia, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, New York and Washington, the national base pay range for this job level is $72,000 to $141,000 annually.
