Attorney (Legal and Compliance) — Executive Director
Overview: Senior legal and compliance role focused on anti-money laundering (AML), sanctions, and anti-corruption laws and regulations. Will provide strategic legal guidance, oversee enterprise-wide financial crimes prevention, and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
Responsibilities
Provide legal advice and support to business and compliance teams on issues related to AML, sanctions, and anti-corruption laws and regulations (e.g., USA PATRIOT Act, Bank Secrecy Act, OFAC/HMT regulations, FCPA, UK Bribery Act).
Review and advise on transactional due diligence pertaining to AML, sanctions, and anti-corruption.
Draft and negotiate contractual provisions pertaining to AML, sanctions, and anti-corruption across all business lines.
Inform and advise internal stakeholders on legal financial crime risks potentially impacting the Firm's clients, transactions, and business practices.
Review, interpret, and advise on relevant laws and industry best practices pertaining to AML, sanctions, and anti-corruption.
Advise on relevance of trade restrictions such as export controls and customs requirements for the Firm's business.
Develop content for and deliver specialized training to internal audiences concerning AML, sanctions, and anti-corruption issues.
Liaise with Legal, Compliance, Regulatory Relations, and Risk to ensure execution of the enterprise-wide financial crimes prevention program.
Assist with in-house and outside counsel in matters before legal/regulatory authorities related to AML, sanctions, and anti-corruption issues.
Support regulatory exams, inquiries, and internal audits, including overseeing document productions.
Support special projects arising from the administration of the GFC program.
Qualifications
Juris Doctor (JD) or equivalent with strong academic credentials.
10+ years of relevant post-qualification experience, preferably at a large/complex financial institution, law firm, or government/regulatory body.
Detailed understanding of AML, sanctions, and anti-corruption laws, rules, and regulations.
Deep subject matter expertise in sanctions matters; ability to assess complex commercial transactions.
Strong independence, initiative, and ability to work within a global program.
Analytical, problem-solving skills with ability to provide viable solutions in time-sensitive environments.
Excellent written and verbal communication, attention to detail, and time management.
Strong project management, judgment, and discretion with confidential information.
Interpersonal skills and a team-oriented mindset.
Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
Skills Desired: Understanding of financial markets and banking transactions; familiarity with export controls, customs, and other trade restrictions.
