Day - 12 Hour (United States of America).
Created in July 2021, the Med 7 Inpatient Service is staffed with a hybrid model involving collaborative care provided by physicians and Advanced Practice Providers (APP). The APPs on the Med 7 service are trained in Internal Medicine to manage the day-to-day care of hospitalized patients. This is an excellent opportunity to join a collaborative and supportive APP/MD team practice.
Responsibilities
Complete/comprehensive history and physical examination, ordering and interpretation of diagnostic studies, and prescribing appropriate treatments in collaboration with the attending physician.
Consult with specialist providers and other team members regarding findings/changes in patient condition; document patient care/procedures per policy; communicate/educate patients and families.
Precepting and mentoring Stanford School of Medicine Physician Assistant students.
Manage common diagnoses including sepsis/septic shock/bacteremia, cellulitis, UTI, liver failure, kidney injury, COPD/asthma exacerbations, UGIB, pancreatitis, ETOH withdrawal, DKA, AMS/Delirium, anemia, atrial fibrillation, syncope, venous thromboembolism, and electrolyte abnormalities.
Orientation on Med 7 inpatient service tailored to experience, typically lasting six to twelve weeks; includes team rounds, procedure orientation, goals of care conversations, and cross-training other APP specialty teams.
Perform pre-rounding, rounds with attending physician, plan of care execution, consults, admissions, discharges, and procedures in the afternoon.
Initiate arrangements for hospital admissions and discharges; participate in investigations and order necessary tests/medications as approved by supervising physician.
Assist in operating room after appropriate training; collaborate with RN First Assistant under physician supervision.
Ensure age-specific care considerations, effective communication with patients and families, and coordination of inpatient/outpatient care and community resources.
Participate in quality improvement initiatives and patient teaching/counseling; comply with legal, regulatory, and clinical policies and procedures.
Education Qualifications
Master’s or Doctoral degree in nursing from an accredited college or university. Note: NPs hired prior to March 1, 2012 are not subject to this educational requirement.
Graduate of an NP program accredited by the NLNAC or CCNE.
Licenses and Certifications
Nursing/RN – State licensure and/or Compact state licensure
NP – Nurse Practitioner licensure
NP Furnishing Number
BLS – Basic Life Support
