About the position We seek a highly motivated and organized candidate for the Sr. Engineer, Transmission and Interconnection role. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong industry knowledge, excellent communications, and detail-oriented organizational skills. This role reports to the SVP of Transmission. Our team provides interconnection strategy for utility-scale solar and storage projects, analyzes the transmission system for capacity, and leads interconnection processes with utilities and ISOs across multiple markets. Essential functions and responsibilities Lead projects through the interconnection process from inception through Commercial Operation in ISO markets (CAISO, ERCOT, SPP, MISO, PJM, NYISO, NEISO) and vertically integrated markets (WECC). Perform power flow, stability, short-circuit studies using PSLF, PSS/E, PowerWorld, TARA, UPLAN, ASPEN, PSCAD and other software for project prospecting. Evaluate interconnection tariffs, costs, timelines, queue processes, and provide strategy to project teams. Coordinate interconnection applications, studies, agreements, and post-IA milestones. Negotiate study results and interconnection agreements with utilities toward favorable outcomes. Lead communication with utilities/ISOs and track progress to ensure timely, cost-effective project completion. Identify optimal interconnection locations based on cross-functional criteria and market risk analyses. Monitor changes to tariffs and manuals and track key upgrades in target markets. Collaborate with Development, Origination, Accounting, Finance, Treasury, Legal, Land, Procurement, HV Engineering, Construction, and Operations. Required skills and qualifications Five (5) or more years of relevant experience in interconnection, project development, or transmission planning at a utility, ISO/RTO, or developer. Deep understanding of CAISO and WECC tariffs, interconnection processes, and related planning processes. Ability to work autonomously in a dynamic environment and manage multiple projects. Ability to summarize interconnection processes and milestones for technical and non-technical audiences. Ability to read and negotiate long legal contracts (Interconnection Agreements, PPAs, Independent Engineer Reports, Financing Documents). Experience building relationships with utilities, consulting firms, ISOs/RTOs, and regulators. Strong skills in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Adobe Acrobat, and Google Earth. Preferred: OASIS/OATI, GE PSLF, PSSE, UPAN, PSCAD, ASPEN, PowerWorld, AutoCAD; Bachelor’s and/or Master’s in Electric Power Systems Engineering and/or MBA; PSLF, PSSE, TARA, UPLAN (PROMOD), PSCAD, ASPEN. Familiarity with ISOs is negotiable. Nice to have Experience with TARA can be learned.
