GA Electromagnetic Systems (GA-EMS) designs and manufactures high-technology systems. The High Power Energy Storage Application Engineer will join the High Voltage Science and Capacitors team, collaborating with qualified professionals to advance energy storage technologies within GA-EMS’ product portfolio. Responsibilities
Develop architectures, solutions, and test plans for innovative capacitor designs Perform thermal and electrical analyses, circuit design (LTSpice or equivalent, MATLAB), hardware design, test automation, and documentation of test cells Develop, design, and build specialized test hardware to characterize capacitors and supercapacitors Participate in assembly and testing of capacitor elements, devices, and arrays; develop code to analyze data and record findings Develop megajoule-class energy storage systems using supercapacitors Assist in design and selection of capacitors for external customers Communicate findings to stakeholders and deliver technical presentations and reports Manage technical projects to align with schedules, budgets, and goals Develop supercapacitor management systems to enhance performance, diagnose health, and protect integrated systems Engage with customers, systems engineers, and stakeholders to define requirements and ensure compliance Collaborate with manufacturing teams to develop and support production processes Lead internal and external design reviews for systems, subsystems, and components May lead small cross-functional engineering teams on high-power electronics projects Apply advanced concepts in electrical, pulsed power, and capacitor engineering to integrate components into complex systems Plan and execute technical efforts with general direction and minimal supervision Represent the organization as a primary technical contact on projects as needed Perform other duties as assigned Qualifications
Typically requires a bachelor’s, master’s, or PhD in engineering or a related technical discipline; progression of experience: 6+ years with a bachelor’s, 4+ years with a master’s, or 2+ years with a PhD; substitution with equivalent engineering experience allowed Experience with high-power electrical systems, including supercapacitors, power conversion, protection, switching, power electronics, instrumentation and control electronics design, and guiding a design from development through production Expertise in electrochemistry methods (cyclic voltammetry, galvanostatic charge-discharge, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, and aging tests) Familiarity with supercapacitor models and management systems Proficiency with circuit simulation tools (LTSpice or equivalent), data analysis tools (MATLAB, Python), finite element analysis, and diagnostics programming languages (C/C++, C#) Strong organizational and planning skills with ability to meet deadlines Ability to quickly learn and apply new concepts in evolving projects Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills for collaboration across departments and with external professionals Customer-focused with ability to develop innovative designs and resolve advanced technical challenges Ability to work independently and in a team Ability to obtain and maintain a Security Clearance Submission of a cover letter with the resume is desired Job Type: Full-Time Salary: 98,100 - 171,398 Location: Poway, CA
