Overview

The Plumbing Program Director will lead the development and early-stage implementation of a new Plumbing Trade Career Development Program designed to produce job-ready graduates. This position will be instrumental in creating a field-focused curriculum, developing a hands-on lab and training workshop, designing engaging online learning experiences, and preparing for the eventual hiring of a full-time director to lead ongoing operations. The position also requires participation in our TradeReady career development prep program geared for high school students preparing to enter the trades workforce. This program will require the design of hands-on activities and online content focused on plumbing-related learning objectives. Additionally, online education offerings will be created and continuously improved to ensure our program remains a leader in industry-relevant, flexible plumbing training. The role is ideal for a licensed Master Plumber or plumbing educator who thrives in program development, instructional design, and workforce training environments.

Key Responsibilities

Program Design & Development: Design and structure a comprehensive Plumbing Trade Career Development Program aligned with national and state workforce readiness standards.

Define course pathways, syllabi, and certification objectives that prepare students to enter the plumbing workforce directly.

Develop scope and sequencing for both beginner and intermediate learners, including preapprenticeship readiness.

Maintain and regularly update curriculum to reflect the latest changes in plumbing codes, industry best practices, and emerging technologies.

Core Hands-On Learning Topics to Include

Plumbing system layout and blueprint reading

Pipefitting and joining methods (PVC, CPVC, copper, PEX, cast iron, steel)

Fixture and appliance installation

Drainage, waste, and vent (DWV) systems

Water supply systems and crossconnection control

Water heating systems (tank and tankless)

Gas piping systems

Plumbing code compliance and application (IPC, local codes)

Plumbing system troubleshooting and repair

Lab Buildout & Equipment Planning

Lead the design of a 1,500 sq. ft. plumbing workshop/lab, specifying layout, required simulators, tools, safety protocols, and functional training stations.

Source and recommend plumbing equipment, training rigs, tools, and fixtures necessary for real-world handson training.

Ensure the training lab is prepared and aligned with course schedules and safety requirements.

Instruction & Assessment

Deliver instruction with a strong emphasis on safety, industry standards, and hands-on competencies. Conduct technical courses on plumbing installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.

Assess student knowledge and skills through written exams and practical evaluations.

Provide actionable feedback to students to ensure measurable progress and career readiness.

Online & Blended Learning Integration

Design and advise on the development of online modules and virtual simulations for theory-based instruction compatible with remote learners.

Assist in selecting or creating digital content, videos, quizzes, and LMS-integrated activities to supplement hands-on coursework.

Ensure online content aligns with instructional goals and offers effective learning pathways for hybrid and asynchronous students.

Requirements

Licensed Master Plumber (required); Plumbing Instructor License or Teaching Certification preferred.

Minimum of 5 years field experience in residential and/or commercial plumbing.

Prior experience in education, curriculum design, or workforce training strongly preferred.

Demonstrated success developing or delivering career training programs and managing hands-on instructional labs.

Familiarity with plumbing codes (IPC, UPC, local), OSHA standards, and related safety requirements.

Experience working with or advising on Learning Management Systems (LMS) and online training tools.

Strong organizational, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
