Overview

Travel Operating Room Registered Nurse (OR RN) Job – Des Moines, Iowa. Advance your nursing career with a travel assignment as an Operating Room Registered Nurse (OR RN) in Des Moines, Iowa (50309). This position places you at a Level I Trauma Center, offering hands-on experience in a dynamic surgical environment.

Responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality perioperative nursing care as part of an interdisciplinary healthcare team
• Perform both scrub and circulating nurse duties in a fast-paced OR environment
• Provide care for a variety of patient types, primarily cardiac, with a 1:1 patient ratio
• Participate in a wide range of surgical cases, including robotics, trauma, neuro, ortho, and more
• Maintain efficient operating room turnover times (less than 20 minutes expected)
• Utilize advanced OR technology, such as DaVinci robots and Stealth navigation systems
• Float between Iowa Methodist Medical Center and Iowa Lutheran campuses as required
• Participate in on-call rotation and work required winter holidays as scheduled

Qualifications

• Active Iowa Registered Nurse (RN) license
• BLS certification (AHA required)
• Minimum 2 years of recent Operating Room RN experience
• Proficient in both scrub nurse and circulating nurse roles
• Experience with General, Robotics, Pediatrics, and Trauma surgical cases (Neuro, Ortho Trauma, Gyn, Uro, Transplants, Plastics, ENT, Vascular preferred)
• Level I Trauma Center experience required
• EPIC EMR experience within the last 3 years
• Ability to float across multiple hospital campuses as needed
• At least 1 year of nursing experience required

Job Details

• Location: Des Moines, IA 50309 (Iowa nursing jobs)
• Assignment Length: 13 weeks (10/27/2025 – 1/26/2026)
• Healthcare Setting: Level I Trauma Center, 16 operating room suites
• Shift: 6:30 AM – 5:00 PM, 10-hour days
• Hours per Week: 40
• Estimated Weekly Salary: $2190 - $2350
• On-Call: Up to 1 overnight per week and 3 weekends per contract (Friday 5:00 PM – Monday 6:30 AM)
• Scrub Attire: Provided
