Job Title: Speech-Language Pathologist Profession: Therapy/Rehabilitation Specialty: Inpatient Rehab Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Day Hours per Shift: 8 Experience: 2 years required, 5 preferred License: State SLP license in hand Certifications: BLS (AHA only) Must-Have: Experience in dysarthria, dysphagia, tracheostomy care, and voice assessments Description: This position is for a Speech-Language Pathologist in a hybrid inpatient/outpatient role. The schedule consists of three 8-hour days from 08:00 to 16:30. There is no on-call duty, floating, or weekend work required. The focus is on oncology-based care, particularly head and neck oncology, including tracheostomy and laryngectomy care. The unit generally operates at a moderate pace but experiences fluctuations. The candidate will perform modified barium swallow studies regularly. The primary responsibilities include cognitive, language, speech, and voice assessment and treatments. Experience with modified barium swallow studies, including bedside evaluations and interpretation, is essential. The candidate should also have familiarity with the signs and symptoms of physical, sexual, and psychological abuse. Patient and family education is a critical aspect of the role. Assessment, evaluation, discharge planning, and documenting care are mandatory. Experience with young, middle-aged, and older adult patient populations is required. Preferred skills include acute care and adult outpatient experience. Candidates should also have experience with patients immediately post-surgery for head and neck procedures. Examples of relevant surgeries include total laryngectomies. Knowledge of fiberoptic endoscopic evaluations and the International Dysphagia Diet is beneficial. Additional preferred skills involve working with augmentative communication devices and various assessment tools. This role requires working closely with an interdisciplinary team, including physical therapy and respiratory services. The typical daily census for this role is 6 patients.
