Job Description Job Title: Patient Care Associate Profession: Patient Care Associate Specialty: Psychiatry Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 7 AM - 3:15 PM Hours per Shift: 7.5 Experience: Minimum 2 years of experience in relevant fields License: BLS (American Heart Association), Certificate of Medical Assistant training, CPI or PMCS certification, SEL and SCR background checks Certifications: Required certifications as listed above Must-Have: SEL, SCR, CPI, BLS

Description: Functions as a member of a multidisciplinary team providing a full range of services to patients admitted to the inpatient psychiatry service. Participates in the patients' admission and orientation to the inpatient unit. Responsible for assisting patients with changing, searching of patients, securing of valuables, reviewing unit rules and regulations, and providing orientation to the room and unit. Assists with preparation and updating of the Nursing Care Plan and Interdisciplinary Treatment Team. Plans and assists with therapeutic interventions to implement the plans as established. Performs selected direct care duties including therapeutic intervention, taking of vital signs and other health-related data, simple dressing changes, sputum, blood and urine collection, urine testing, and personal hygiene tasks. Assists with the provision of concrete services, such as transportation and obtaining clothes. Leads and co-leads various patient activity groups, both recreational and therapeutic in nature. Assists with the preparation and implementation of discharge plans by arranging transportation and maintaining contact with family and others to facilitate the patient's discharge. Acts as patient escort for tests and recreational patient outings as ordered. Intervenes with physical restraints of violent or aggressive patients. Assists with the care of patients in seclusion or restraint as per departmental policy. Initiates CPR when necessary and assists the nursing team in executing emergency protocols. Practices and maintains infection control. Maintains an assigned patient caseload providing ongoing supportive counseling to both patients and families. Patient ratio is 1:5. Some weekends are required.
