Position summary and primary responsibilities are described below. This role works under a dentist’s supervision to prepare equipment for dentistry procedures, ready patients, and assist during procedures by passing instruments and supporting the dentist as needed. Some responsibilities include removing sutures, processing x-rays, and taking oral impressions used to fit crowns.

Responsibilities

• Work under the direct supervision of the Prosthodontist
• Provide chair-side assistance during examinations and treatments
• Prepare patients for treatment and obtain dental records
• Hand instruments and materials to dentists; manage suction and keep mouths dry and clear
• Sterilize and disinfect instruments and equipment; prepare trays for procedures; instruct patients on postoperative and general oral care
• Prepare materials for impressions and restorations; take dental x-rays and process film as directed
• Assist with radiographic procedures as directed by a dentist
• Perform office duties as needed (scheduling, confirming appointments, reception, record-keeping, billing, ordering supplies)
• Assist in specialty areas including oral surgery, periodontics, prosthodontics, and dental implantology
• Support and assist the hygienist (trays, room setup, cleanup)
• Track inventory of prosthetic supplies and organize storage
• Support the radiographic needs of the Patient Education Consultants, Oral Surgeon, and Hygienists

Working Conditions

• Well-lighted, clean environment; work near the dental chair
• Protective gear required (gloves, masks, eyewear, protective clothing)
• Follow safety procedures for x-ray use

Experience and Qualifications

• Certified as a Dental Assistant by the ADA
• Two years of Dental Assistant experience
• Dental implant experience desired
• Reliable, team-oriented, good manual dexterity
• Current CPR certification
• Physical requirements include capability to lift up to 50 pounds, stand for extended periods, and perform repetitive manual tasks

Compensation and Benefits

The anticipated range for this position is $25 - $27 DOE.
